Smith 27-2 joined the collection today

After patiently waiting days for the FFL to return back from a trip, I finally got the call today to "come get it".

Thought I'd share a couple pictures with my fellow THR wheel gun aficionados

It's always a guessing game buying something online but I have to say this time the seller underrepresented the gun, whew! Can't wait to shoot it!

BTW, if anyone knows when serial N-927nn was made I'd love to know.

Looks like there's a chance the stocks are for a K-frame rather than an N-frame and older than your gun. They also are worth a fair bit of change.

yes, Iggy is right. Those are K-frame targets and you'll need to find some N-frame ones to get it looking close to right. Shouldn't be too hard or costly to trade up to them.

The N1 to N99999 range was used from 1969 to 1972. With a serial number that high 1972 seems certain.

You know I just put the gun up to my 686 and I'll be darned, it's got the stocks are the same size, you guys have amazing eyes!

My only (other) N-Frame is at the 'smith right now so I couldn't compare. I'll probably get my favorite Pao Ferro stocks from Hogue for this gun since I plan on keeping it warmed up in my shooting rotation.

Another interesting thing is this one came with a regular trigger and I believe a semi-target hammer. Most of the ones I see online have TT, TH.

Don't lose or undersell those "football cutout" Target stocks. They are becoming more and more in demand.

I carry a nickel 3 1/2" 27 quite a bit of the time.

I picked up a model 15-6 4" heavy barrel in perfect condition last week that I'm hoping these K-Frame stocks might fit. Both revolvers are square butts.

I don't care so much for the tear drop originals on the model 15, although it's not because they don't look nice, they are just on the small side for my hands. Right now the 15 is wears a Hogue monogrip which, in spite of being a great shooting grip, I think distresses the character of that beautiful little piece.

These grips seem to be N-frame after all?

I'm a bit puzzled by the grips which a couple guys thought were possibly K-frame grips.

I picked up my 25-2 from the 'smith today and I cannot tell one iota of difference between the grips on the two guns.

The ones in question on the 27-2 have a stamp that says NT 430 with a number 5912. My best guess is NT means N-Frame Target?

I'm more of a fan of the smaller, non-target Smith grips, but thye targer grips sure feel good.
That's one pretty N frame. The couple of 27/28 Smiths I've shot were great shooters.
