Can someone tell me what the deal is with the Smith 908 I cant find one anywhere, out of the six gun shops in my area I have never seen one. Is there something wrong with the gun or what?

Nothing at all wrong with the 908. I've had one for two years and I like it a lot. Very easy to shoot accurately.

The only problem? S&W has discontinued making them. :(

Quit making them? They are still listed in the catalog?
I haven't figured that one out myself. But yeah, I've read elsewhere that they've stopped making them.

Your best bet is to see if any local shops have any used 3rd gen S&W guns in stock. I was able to get a used 6906 from my shop, and they also had a few 5906s. Alternatively, GunBroker.com usually has several 3913s (908 predecessor) or a ton of 5906s (910 predecessor) listed.

My 908 was one handgun I owned that would load ANYTHING I put in it and shoot it accurately. In fact, it was so reliable and easy to operate, I gave it to my son to use as his personal carry. These guns are held on to and even passed down through the generations, as they are classic weapons that you can trust your life to. This is probably why you rarely see one at the gun shops around here. Good luck with your search, and when you do find a nice 3rd gen Smith, you won't be disappointed with the quality of the piece or the Awesome Customer Service and parts availability, which is what Smith and Wesson are all about.
