Classic blued steel S&W .38 special revolver. 6 million of these have been made, and the Military & Police/Model 10 is one of the most popular revolvers of all time, for good reason.

This one, a 10-5, was made in 1966 or thereabouts (Thanks, Radagast!), has a round butt, a 2" barrel, a 9 pound 10 ounce DA trigger pull and a 3 pound 8 ounce SA trigger pull. First gun I ever got, first gun my (then girlfriend, now) wife ever shot (she nailed a pop can 3x in a row... I was in love).

An absolute joy to shoot. I think it's silly that S&W calls all their guns M&Ps now, EXCEPT the Model 10. LOL :D

That one is beautiful, what a jewel! I also have a 10-5, and just love the way it shoots. It belonged to an LE detective who gave it me for nothing. It had hardly been shot or carried much. The blue was still about 90%. There are still a bunch of these out there, some in excellent condition, but that one is absolutely gorgeous.

You have a VERY nice revolver there!!!

I agree, the S&W M&P is one of the best revolver ever made. Back in 2009 I was lucky enough to find an original M&P manufactured before they started using model numbers. This one is a 4" M&P made in 1948...

Here is another photo of the M&P along with a Chief's Special, they just belong together!

You are a lucky man. They should still refer to it as a M&P as to not do so is an insult to its historic significance and diminishes Smith & Wesson's prestige.

I recently bought a pre-Model 10 and they are really nice revolvers. As best as I can estimate from the serial number mine dates from the early 1920s. You have yourself a really nice gun!

I love my Model 10s. I don't have a snubby yet, I'm waiting for the right 5 screw M&P snubby to come along so I can snatch it up.

My favorite revolver is my 3 inch, round butt Model 10. It does everything well.

I'm somewhat embarrassed,,,

I'm somewhat embarrassed,,,
I own 11 S&W revolvers,,,
Not one is a Model 10.

I do have a beautiful Model 12 though,,,

Does that get me in the M&P Club?

If every adult citizen in America owned a Model 10,,,
And basic handgun training was a part of junior-high or high-school,,,
We would have chaos for a few years but then violent crime would lessen dramatically.

We all love our whiz-bang semi's,,,
But boil it down to the essentials of true need,,,
A Model 10 and 250 rounds of ammo would suffice for anyone.

My first gun was a S&W model 10 from the Royal Hong Kong Police, bought at a flea market in 1993 for $175. I gave it to my Dad in 2009 so he would have a home protection gun. I still have a couple of others, both 10-6's, one with a two inch barrel and one with a four inch. I'd like to get another two inch barreled gun, but with the round butt instead of the square, but they are all great.

Our issued pistol the modern M&P in .40 S&W and I cringe every time I have to say M&P. I cringe even harder when someone asks what M&P stands for. I agree they should have given it a different name and left the M&P to the Model 10.

I can relate. I tried to post my 1905 4th change Target from 1910, the 1924 4" "duty" I sent to Ford's to bling, and my current 10-5 but I had posted too many times on other threads. Don't have any more glamour shots the website will let post.

How are you getting duplicates to post?

Just got back from the range. As usual, I shoot my Model 10 better than any other handgun I've owned. I was only at about 21' today, mainly function testing some new guns, but put 4/6 into a 1/2" cloverleaf double action.

I have the same combination, a Model 10 4" and a Chief! They rwally DO go together!

Can I play? I gave my daughter a 4" model 10 in Ni from a south American police trade in a long time ago. I got it for the princely sum of $114. It was worn until the hammer would push off. Had a local 'smith fix that. Shoots like a dream.

I DO have a Victory model U. S. Navy issue that appears to be unfired. Got it 'papered' from S&W. Proud of that one!
