Hey, I just remembered. How about a Smolt?
Who was it, Skeeter Skeleton or was it a gunsmith friend of his that put Python barrels on Smith 19's? I don't remember for sure but I remember seeing articles about them.
That way you could have it both ways.

Correct- That was the design. Yet the Python was supposed to be a 38 and last min became a 357…. Before production. Both frames very close in size

Yep- A tad off topic- Yet Something I agree with you on Old dog, Never cared for Jeep’s tho and had 1, Drove a few ;) B32FF4D1-3C58-4AD4-8C67-77A4B68DB285.jpeg
Eh, posting the word "Colt" in any thread that also talks about S&W can be akin to mentioning you own a 4-Runner or Land Rover in a four-wheeler forum thread praising Jeeps.

Ew, no. It just looks wrong to me.

A few S&W models started out as 38 special didn't they and later had modifications to allow them to handle 357? That's neither here or there. The difference is that the mods S&W made to the pre lock K frames were not sufficient enough compared to Ruger and Colt offerings.

Yes your correct- Thank you for stating simple information that is In connection with the subject, as did I and not in favor of Colt or S&W.

Comparing the Python market to that of the Sig 410 is not an apples to apples comparison.

You mean Sig P210, it absolutely is an apples to apples comparison, both are valued collector pieces that recently had re-issues. In neither case have the new models devalued the old ones.

I said nothing about the value, it was the cool factor that I stated. The new Python put one in the hands of those who would not pay the crazy $4000 price tag. At that level they are collectors mostly, that is a whole different situation.

You are right. The same will be true for prelock S&W's once they do away with the lock.

Ya know- I really don’t care enough.

Buy a Python if ya want- Feel free to spend $3800-4000

I’ll spend $1000 on a nice 19 and shoot $3000 in ammo with laughter

Or get a new one if ya think they are quality items.

Ok 2400?
That’s $1400 in ammo or a Press with Molds, primers and brass to Shoot for a long long time.

Ps - Go to Gunbroker now… I see newer ones at $1700 and few older ones at $3900 and 4000

Hit any gun show with $1200-1000, Find a good condition K frame 357 in about 10 min

Sometimes, it ain't all about money. But in this case if it is, you aren't gonna lose money on either gun the OP asked about unless you overpay to begin with.

The Op stated Funds are A decisive factor. So…… That’s exactly what my point in last post was about.

Not sure how that can be argued with.

Less money
Similar shooting ability
More money left over to…. go shooting, Often.

That’s irrelevant when looking at my last 2 post about value and what he can buy for the cost of a Python.

Even if the Op was Daddy Warbucks , What’s the difference if he can afford either?

He stated “ Funds are a issue”

On a side note I remember seeing a 6" Nickel plated Colt, Python on NCIS, New Orleans.
It was interesting because they mostly use autos.

You can find the current and better built Pythons (MHO) for $1200-$1300 with no lock and a better trigger. Most of the S&W 19s that I current ser NIB for sale are the Carry Comps that are over $1000. I'd take a newer Colt Python 4" over a 19 Carry Comp easily.

The S&W 19 Classic model is a little cheaper, but still has the lock and the worse trigger. If S&W does away with the lock, the locked versions will plummet in resale value. I've seen on multiple occasions the new 2021 Colt Pythons selling for under MSRP of $1499. People are willing to pay $1600 to $2000 for them on GunBroker. Buds even had them for way over MSRP at $1800, and they sold out. With that said, even though.you might spend $200-$300 more for the Colt, they hold their value much more. You are gaining equity by snapping one up under MSRP.
