Do the trade, or not?
The Romy is beautiful, perfect metal, and it's in a dark wood stck, ALL numbers matching. Thoughts?
 
I do the trade asap. Those Romanian SKS s in excellent condtion are highly sought after. They will only go up in value in the next year and so on.
 
If anyone wants to see it, go to Armslist, St Louis mo, private seller rifles. It's under "Very rare Romy sks..." Tell me what you think!

I'd say trade, you can buy another AR anytime, a Romainian SKS, in as good a shape as you say it is, are pretty hard to find.
 
Getting it to shoot or collect? Resell in a couple years? Problem is, if you're thinking investment, you're putting yourself in a hole already. He's making $100 off you. Now if the price rises in a year you might be breaking even, but who is to say Sports are going to stay at $600? Right now their prices are rising some too, looks like most are $640 or more. Eventually the SKS will be worth more, but I think it'll likely be a few years. Buy low, sell high: You're not buying low.
Now, YOU really want it to add to your collection, go for it. D

Good reasoning. I'm a shooter first, hunter always, a collector I am not.
 
Offer your SW SPorts if new condition for the Romanian SKS, plus $150 cash.
 
I hate SKS's !.... Why anyone would pay $0.05 for one is beyond me let alone trade one of best value ARs available for it :banghead:

I'm not. Told the guy he was too high. He wanted a straight up deal. I don't think so. Anyway, I still have it, sold the older one, now I have a plain Jane Sport. Plan on keepin it simple with just a scope for varmint/deer duty. Sks, maybe some other time.
 
Lets see ,, the sport shoots easy to find quality .223 or 5.56 can shoot 1"MOA or less from any gun shop and is a trouble free AR that can except AR do dad you wish to add to it and one that also happens to have a great factory behind in if you do something stupid if it.

Average romo sks that shoots MO of bucket that has no factory CS to speak of. and can be bought "new" , kinda for 299 ++. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F3RSKS

Mike- while I almost always agree with you, and I think you are a great guy, I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. There was a time, in college and law school when I was a student and living on a student's budget (ie. very tight). I didn't have money to really invest in getting a modern, fighting rifle.

I bought a mint Yugo SKS for $175 because it was a rifle that I could afford, ammo was $100/1000 rounds back then so I could afford to shoot it and get good with my tool, and it gave me 10 shots of a very effective cartridge and then a quick reload. The fact that it was as reliable as a brick just sealed the deal.
My SKS was my one and only rifle for a while because it was a defense/shtf/range gun that really could do it all in a pricepoint that I could afford. It was also a good fighting rifle that was legal to buy in CT during the AWB. I sold it off about 2 years ago, but ended up getting an SKS-M to replace it.:evil::evil::evil: Let's hit the range together and after you burn through a 30round mag, I think you'll sing a different tune. Ammo's on me. let me know if you're in.

I'm not a huge SKS fan, but it's a tool that serves its purpose just as well now as it did 65 years ago.
 
+1 19-3Ben, a yugo sks was also my first battle rifle, that I bought in college for the same reason.
 
It's okay boys, I'm not trading the Sport. I just finished a Steel Reserve and broke her down, cleaned and oiled, and she's in the gun case. I always said, after owning several ARs, the only one I really liked was the Sport. Light, simple, doesn't have useless crap I don't need.

But, let's be realistic for a minute: any where you can get 556 or 223, you can get 7.62x39, and for much cheaper. While the 223 is my pet round, it's getting up there in price.
 
My Yugo 59 66 cost me $100 from Coles Distributing in 2004. It is my go to ranch gun . Needless to say it groups 1.5 inch grps at 100 yds with Yugo surplus.

$175 against a $600 rifle, or $500 vs a $600 rifle.

It's not the same dilemma.

And the math does not work out very well for anyone trying to sell an SKS for >$300.

Very true, but a moot point. Nobody was arguing that. I was simply giving a counterpoint to MikePain by justifying that the SKS does fit a specific niche. These days, i don't even know that it really does fill that niche. A used .30-30 would be less expensive these days and serve most of the same purposes. But even now the SKS has some points going for it over a .30-30. Namely: capacity, rate of fire, and cost of ammo.

Either way, my point had nothing to do with the trade and everything to do with the utility of the SKS.
 
mookiie does it matter if sold out right now or for 2 months ?? Its more about what can be bought if you spend time looking.
 
Hardluk1 - if they are out now I doubt they will have more in two months, SKS's are starting to dry up was my point. Yeah you can still get one for 300 if you shop around carefully, but it may take a few months to get the right deal. Besides if he really wants a sw sport a new one could be bought any day. So you have to weigh that as well.
