What do you guys know about the Smith Wesson 5946 9mm? Is this a solid gun or a gun with a lot of problems? Is the trigger decent? I know it is DAO just curious how easy it is to make accurate shots.

Very solid, very reliable gun. DAO version of the 5906.

The gun is capable of very good accuracy is you can manage DAO triggers well. The DAO 3rd gens I've played with had pretty decent triggers.

I just picked up a 6946 last month and love it! The trigger is fairly heavy, but smooth and a short pull. Mine has wear from being carried but is like new in the internals and shoots awesome. It seems to feed anything I try as well.

Good luck finding one, they are excellent pistols!

A sample with two all steel mags came in on trade into LGS. I was pretty impressed with finish and look of the gun. One does not see that many for sale on second-hand market. I think most were police contract guns. Nice gun to have if one wants to use +P or +P+ ammo. The trigger is pretty good when one realizes it cocks the hammer when it is pulled.

A bonus for me is the DAO trigger pull is shorter, thus the gun fits me and my stubby fingers better than a base 5906.

FWIW, the 5946 is one of three duty sidearms authorized for uniform carry in the NYPD.

I've been looking for a 6946 locally for some time now, no dice thus far...

double action only

5946 is a nice pistol...you gonna like it. I don't have one but do have a 6946. I really like it being DAO. I had Trijicon "re-lamp" the once dim night sights. I like it even better now.

I have a 5906.
I like it, but don't love it.

S&W 3rd gens are hard to beat for the price right now though.
