guys, I am setting up for an mini14 stringing experiment this upcoming week. basically, I want to see if the mini14 really strings badly when heated up, and if so, when is heated up. I need a bit of info to start off, and I will post the entire report this week with pictures.

here's what I have: mini14 580 series, and a 125 yard range. ammo used will be wolf .223 copper 55gr hp since this is affordable, fire season safe, and shoots well in my mini (1" at 25 yards, iron sights, i'm a mediocre shot).

I need to know at what range mini is supposed to start stringing, and how many rounds i need to put through it to heat it up.

I dont think it matters which range, but the farther the distance the more pronounced the effects may become.
I havent seen that problem i the 580 series, but then I havent been the one shooting either.

the 580 series are better accuracy wise than the old ones, but if you wanted to eliminated barrel heating problems you could have the action and barrel cryo treated for about $75. might be worth it.

My 580 would string but not as badly as earlier models. Barrel harmonics are the biggest cause of the Mini's relative inaccuracy and shortening the bbl and/or adding a flash hider/muzzle brake will significantly improve group size & stringing (cut mine in half).
