Snubby Cross Draw

You may gain a little comfort behind the wheel but you lose advantages elsewhere such as speed, especially with a one hand drawstroke, and ability to draw while in touching distance.
I agree with that.

However, carrying my BUG cross-draw beats the daylights out of pocket carry. The primary arm is carried strongside OWB.

Why "once produced"?

What kind of "surprise"? One does not draw before the threat is imminent.
Because it shouldn't be produced until there is imminent need. Once the need is there it's time to go to work unless the threat somehow dissipates between the draw and the trigger squeeze.

The pic is my Craft Cross Draw holster.
……great when sitting or driving
……effective for minimal draw motion
……comfortable draw when the shoulder is hurting

QUESTION:

Your opinion on cross draw-?
Is there an IWB cant for not horizontal cross draw holster-?

Thank you
What is amazing is I gave away a Triple K snubby cross draw holster yesterday, have never once used it. Hope the next guy gets some good use out of it!

The civilian defender has no business trying to “surprise” anyone.
That's not true. If someone has deadly intentions for me and takes steps towards carrying that out then I most definitely want my actions to be a surprise with some exceptions that are situationally dependent such as I'm in a position of advantage such as barricaded in my home warning an intruder to leave before making entry.

There are numerous ways a civilian, or anyone for that matter, can take advantage of surprise and be completely justified.

That boy with the Active Self Protection channel on YouTube offers plenty of examples and his "wait your turn" mantra is a perfect example for that.

Possible in are circumstancess, but one's priority should be speed.

Speed should be the priority when its needed. Sometimes, speed isn't the priority in the course of things, and does have to "wait its turn".

And all of it, speed, smoothness, repetition of fire, accuracy, surprise, etc, etc, are all part of the same package, and work best as a package, and not usually broken down into individual parts.

And you need to be as up on all of them as you can, and keep up with that, so you don't have to think about what is going to happen to make it happen.

What exactly are these "well known" downsides? After almost fifty years of preferring cross draw I seem to have missed them. Of course you'd probably give me grief over one of my preferred handguns and it's usual holster.

It's an internet forum so it doesn't matter what you say, someone will be along in short order to tell you how wrong you are. 🤣

I've been carrying almost exclusively cross-draw OWB for the past several years. Privateer Leather makes a nice cross-draw holster and a cross-draw magazine pouch that goes on the strong side.

Keep on doing you and ignore the internet commandos.

The internet is a two-way range, and lots of commandos on both sides. ;)

These days, there are a bazillion different types of holsters out there, and one to suit just about any fancy, but that doesn't mean that those fancy's are the least bit realistic.

And reality is usually vetted by actually proving the theory. Just wearing it around doesn't count. ;)

The post to which you replied is about downsides, and it has been answered.

Your having carried crossdraw substantiates nothing. As @tracksippy posted out, "Just wearing it around doesn't count".

Some FoF training should illustrate the advantages and the disadvantages.

I've started wearing crossdraw recently and it's quicker than pocket carry for most situations.View attachment 1224893
There is no perfect method for all occasions.
Keep in mind that this picture is in a mirror so everything is reversed and I usually wear a shirt outside over it.
I have since moved the holster over to the right side because it seems to work better, it's easier to put on and take off of the belt without undressing.

Well; I have to call a hearty BS on that! 😁
I‘d much prefer that any assailant have no idea that I’m armed until I’ve shot him (repeatedly). It’s the same for me with a blade.

I have no frame of reference to even consider complying with your comment.

Deterrence is preferable to deadly force,by a long shot.

Shooting an assailant is a last resort, and the aftermath will likely prove very unpleasant for the defender, even if the evidence shows that he did everything right.

i got this nice cross-draw holster for a bond arms derringer from big texas leather works for $25 on etsy. excellent product. it also fit a sig p238 that i formerly owned and if i recall correctly (i am away just now) a taurus 85 with exposed hammer. i like it for a driving ccw.

You know, I think I like wearing my cross draw on the strong side better.

AOWB, anyone? It works for some of us. ;) Appendix, but, not inside the trousers.

I favor the Kramer Handgun Leather Cross Draw for this carry position. I do have to wear a more-full-cut cover garment, made of more-substantial fabric, than I would to conceal the same weapon behind the hip. It does not work so well, on my body, for a blocky weapon, such as a Glock, but I like for revolvers, with relatively modest-sized grips.
