Right then. So I go to my LGS yesterday @ lunch time today. What’s in the display case but a Ruger 1911! (he had just put it out) It’s priced @ $639.00 + tax.

Like every other gunstore, these have been 'on order' since last May.

I handle it and decided to not make a decision right away, not in the heat of the moment as it were.

I went back to work. I crumbled @ 2:15pm. I called the LGS (I could hear customers in the background). My dealer and I had this conversation.

    LGS: “Gunstore.”

    Me: “Hey _ _ _ _ _ it’s _ _ _ _. Do you still have the Ruger 1911?”

    LGS: “I do.”

Me: “Put it in the safe.”

    LGS: “Okay, bye.”

    Me: “Bye.”

Being a ‘Preferred Customer’ does have dvantages!

Picked it up today. Here she be! :)

That is one sweet 1911... Couple questions for curiosity's sake:

Is it made in the USA?
How does it compare to other 1911's like Springfield, Kimber, and Colt?
Please, please, PLEASE post some targets! :D

Why are these causing so much... hot and botheredness?

It looks like a pretty plain jane 1911 to me... from a inexperianced maker, who is pretty much famous for casting all their guns...I would assume without looking it up that its a cast 1911....

Why is this thing so desireable? Is it the price?

The frame is cast...just like the frames Ruger has been making for Caspian for years. No one seems to complain about those Caspian frames....in fact they seem rather desireable. Or the frames they were making for Desert Eagle. So, inexperienced? I don't think so.

The slide is machined out of bar stock.

It's the perfect storm: a manufacturer with a dedicated following producing a gun with a dedicated following which they haven't made before (at least with their name on it) in stainless at a reasonable price.

An American made stainless steel 1911 from a manufacturer with a rep for rugged reliabilty (built like tanks) at a great price.

Initial reviews are favorable. I would buy with confidence. Ruger's customer service is top notch.

I have to jump through a couple of legal hoops to get one in Kalifornistan but I will do so when Ruger gets caught up.

Sergei's post nailed it. That's exactly why they are hot.

I plan on getting one also, too bad they come with a cheap soft case and a plain Jane box.

I wasn't aware of the price on the Ruger's, that's not bad. Most all of the new 1911's coming out are a little high, IMO. Maybe they will have a rail model soon. Kudos on the deal, a 4.5 trigger, too...

Just talked to a couple of my shops and they have a mile long waiting list :( . The one shop is going to sell the Ruger for around $650 and the other for $599. Hopefully the demand wont drive the price up too much.

My brother bought one a month or two ago. He said he was one of the few people in his city who had one (at that time.) Hard to believe they're still hard to come by.

He really likes his. I'm sure you will, too. Best Wishes.

    Guys,

As noted, these are very hard to find right now! Ruger has set up a second production line that's dedicated to the SR1911 (per an email a fellow got today from Ruger's CEO). Double production should loosen up supply in the near future.

My dealer doesn't maintain 'Lists' per se. Too many guys say they want something then change thier minds. A 'Perferred Customer' (like me) can get a special dispensation on
such things. I DID NOT request or put 'dibs' on this gun. With no deliverly schedule I didn't want to be chaffing @ the bit waiting for one to appear! It showed up, I looked, fondled it, went back to work, called and had my dealer take it off the market, being a Perferred Customer has it privileges :) BUT, in that hour I 'was thinking about it', ANYONE could have snatched it up.

Hang in there guys, keep looking. Your gun will come. Look for a range report w/ pics tomorrow or Sunday.

    Hang in there

I've been internet shopping for my first 1911. Sure I've handled a bunch and shot a few but just from reviews, the price point, and I'm an admitted Ruger fanboy, I do believe I want one. If my LGS had one for $600-$650 I'd probably snap it up.
