So, another Garand, or an M1A Loaded?

OK, here's the dilema: Do I pick up another Garand (which will make #3), or do I spread out and get an M1A Loaded, with all the neccesary new stuff, like mags, different ammo, dies, etc.

I don't own both now (and have never had an M1A), but I figure those of you that do could give me some good opinions.

And, btw, I LOVE those Garands!

Well, there's pro's + con's either way, but given that you already have Garands, if it was me, I'd stay with the same platform and caliber.

I love my M1A, and would also like to have a Garand, but at this point in my life I lean toward simplifying things, which means not adding another caliber, different accessories, different reloading equipment etc.
Of course, what works for me might not work for you.

That's a tough one. I have one M1A Loaded. I've had one Garand, and have it's replacement ordered. My Loaded is my favorite rifle, period. The Garand has history, regardless of the model. The Loaded is based on a rifle with history.

I can see myself selling my Garand if something else comes along that I want more. I can't see that with my M1A.

Considering you already have two Garand's I would go with a m1a just to have something a little different. You never know if you like the Garand, which obvioulsy you do you may really like the m1a.

My Garand does everything I need it to on it's own. It is a fun rifle and one of my favorites but I really don't have a need for more than one, I do have a want but not a need.

I could see if maybe you wanted to have one set up for JCG matches, another for high power, another set up as m1 d or c, and maybe even a tanker or numbers matching version but you didn't mention that. Like I said if it were me, and it's not, I would go for a M1A, a set of Lee dies are not that expensive, once fired .308win brass is pretty plentiful and cheaper than 30-06, and you could still use the same bullets and powder.

If you love your Garands, then you well love your M1A. I did basic and AIT with the M14, I prefer it to the Garand.

I say the M1A. Just finished up one with a Troy MCS chassis. Absolutely love it. Makes the .308 a very nice shooter.

M1A all the way. Garands are nice but you have 2 already. The M1A is the much improved version of a Garand. Buy CMI mags, and a boatload of
7.62x51. You'll wonder why you waited so long.

Save some garand wealth for others that are not as Garand fortunate as you. Go with the M1a and learn a new system. Its fun.

longdayjake: there are plenty of garands out there, in all conditions and price ranges. I aquire for condition, rather than historical value, because I shoot, not collect, so I like the Springfield commercial ones, the accurized and NM ones, etc. Its all Garand!

I have decided to go with the Garand; mostly for the reasons deadhawg said; I dont need another caliber, I am already invested in parts, books, ammo, etc. Besides, I really prefer the way the Garand looks and handles over the M1A. Just my preference. With a 5-round enbloc, I can hunt with it too.
