So excited- first AR15

I went into the gun shop today with case (always a bad idea) and saw a preowned ar15 from back in the post ban days. It had the skeleton stock with the foam cheekpiece, A2 upper, 16" barrel with ak brake, came with 2 30 round mags and a 10 round mag, as well as a hard plastic carry case.

Total price was $589, so I put $200 down on it and will pay off the rest later.

The thing looks to be in fantastic shape, and the owners of the shop said that I could bring it back it turned out to have feeding problems or anything.

I'm so exited!
And I just can't hide it!

It's a Bushmaster. I'll swap out the barrel for one with a flash suppresor in a little while.

It sounds like a good deal. It also sounds like it has a Ace stock on it. I really like ACE stocks so if you decide to get a pre-ban/no-ban stock for it, let me know if you want to sell it or trade it.
 
You probably would not need to swap the barrel to install a flash hider, unless you just do not like the barrel. Both Bushmaster and Evolution Gun Works provide this service at a reasonable price, and I believe that other shops will also remove a pinned muzzle brake, thread the barrel, and install a flash hider.

Sounds like a good buy, don't forget the range report and pictures. I got four Stag lowers coming in, can't wait to get them together.
 
That is a fantastic price for a Bushmaster. And, when you consider their backlog, you done good!

My department is trying to order 24 10.5" M16's for our tac team. We were told to expect AT LEAST a 6-8 month wait!
 
I originally wanted to build one, but since the upper alone is around $500, why not get the rest of it for $80 more? It's not exactly what I want, but that's what tools and opposable thumbs were made for! :D Now I can swap out the parts I want and keep these as spares.

I'm going to pick it up on Tuesday.

And, oddly enough, Mrs Jamz and I have been looking for houses in Maine. Finally, after a looong time looking, we found a place and made an offer today- for a place in Gorham maine, just a few miles south of the Bushmaster factory!

It's like it was made to be, or something. :cool:

I was plannign on geting the lower next week at the gunshow, but if I come across pre-bans for those prices, I may just do that. After all, when target shooting, I don't really nedd a bayonet ;) (other's losses are my gains)
 
Buying an AR15 is always something to get very excited about. Even if you already own a dozen of them. You are going to have a lot of fun.

If you want that muzzle brake removed and a flash suppressor installed, KKF is a good place to do it.
 
Adco will do it for $100 + the price of the suppressor. Bushmaster informed me that they "no longer do it due to the sheer volume of the requests." I asked, since everybody wants the brakes removed and replaced..why put them on in the first place? No answer. :confused: :D

I've had my AR15 for about 27 years. I wound up with it by accident when a buddy asked me to buy it for him. He had ordered a new Colt SP1 from a local dealer and then was caught short of cash when it arrived. I offered to pick it up for him and he pay me when he could. I held the gun for about a month before he finally admitted he had no idea when he would be able to raise the money so he told me keep or sell the rifle. I kept it. Still have it. Wish I had hung onto the cardboard box. It came with a 5 and 20 round magazine and I think I paid $340 for it in 1978.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yours. I'm not really into match or service rifles but it's fun to shoot.
 
Well, I picked it up today as expected, along with 50 rounds of .223. Went almost straight to the range, and fired away- functioned perfectly, no issues whatsoever. :)

Brought it home to give it a good cleaning. Now it's tucked into the safe, ready for bed. I think it might be time to invest in .223 dies for the reloader! :D

If it functioned perfectly with that steel 40rd USA magazine in it, then you got pretty lucky. Invest in some USGI magazines and it will probably continue to run that way for quite some time.

Welcome to the club of Evil Black Rifle owners!!

I dove into the evil mousegun with both feet. I built mine, both upper and lower. After doing it I couldn't imagine buying one off the rack. They're just too much fun to build and you can put the stuff you want on it from the get-go, instead of having to remove somebody else's idea of an ideal part to put your own on. The only upper I'd ever buy already built is one built for competition, such as a Holliger or Frank White.
 
Reloading for an AR (or anyother semi with a free floating firing pin) is tricky,
not something to just jump into. I use 55g fmj and IMR 4895, 4198 also works good but I can't use it in my other semis. Nice gun, great price.

Found mine today

colt 6601 hbar sporter match. Resources from THR and AR15 told me it was a good deal. Will go and fetch it home as soon as they clear me on the delayed NICS. Or next Tuesday.
My first one also. Now I gotta get the nomex suit on before I tell SWMBO. I know it's still gonna burn.
