A few weeks ago now, Vortex optics was running a giveaway on their X/twitter page. All you had to do was sign up for their news letter and you'd win an Areo Precision M4E1 with an Slingster sling and a Vortex AMG UH1 Holographic optic. Thinking I had zero chances of winning, I figured why not?
The other day while I'm at work, phone notification chime went off. Screen didn't illuminate so figured it was an email. Looked at my phone and sure enough it was an email from Vortex. So I opened up the email and it said Congradulations you won an Areo Precision Rifle, AMG UH1 holographic and an Slingster Sling. Email looked really good and legit. At this point I did not even remember signing up for any kind of giveaway, because this was on the 20th of August and I was on vacation from work then. Going back to the email, nothing looked out of the ordinary, like how some scams would be. So I'm like, this is too good to be true, there is no way I just won all this. So I look up Vortex's number and called them up. Guy who answered asked who sent it, I told them the person's name. He's like yeah that person does actually work here in marketing, let me transfer you over. Mind you I'm still at work, but I'd rather be cautious than jump into it and get sucked into a scam. Was on hold for about 10-15 minutes. Guy came back on and said that the person in marketing was not at their desk but congrats you in fact did win. So I confirmed the email.
So about an hour and a half later, I'm up at lunch and got another email from the person at Vortex and said so and so told me you had called. Several back and forth emails later, got my address sent and the FFL of my choice squared away.
So yesterday got the tracking information email for the optic and sling. Then today, I had received an email from the FFL that the rifle was in and I could come in at any time to pick it up. So went over there after work and picked up the rifle. Other than the coat of gas and the $30 FFL transfer fee, pretty much got the rifle for free.
It is an M4E1, but it's kind of a parts bin build. The upper and hand guard were not coated together so there is a shade difference in color. Has the Ambi charging handle and safety which is nice, don't have to get a different charging handle. Came with a 30rd P-mag and a neon green chamber safety.
This rifle is stupid LIGHT compared to my PSA PA-10 in .308. Now I need to buy another ammo can for nothing but 5.56x45mm. Sadly, optic had not shown up yet as that is being delivered through UPS.
Never did I think I ever had a chance at winning this.
