So I won an AR

A few weeks ago now, Vortex optics was running a giveaway on their X/twitter page. All you had to do was sign up for their news letter and you'd win an Areo Precision M4E1 with an Slingster sling and a Vortex AMG UH1 Holographic optic. Thinking I had zero chances of winning, I figured why not?

The other day while I'm at work, phone notification chime went off. Screen didn't illuminate so figured it was an email. Looked at my phone and sure enough it was an email from Vortex. So I opened up the email and it said Congradulations you won an Areo Precision Rifle, AMG UH1 holographic and an Slingster Sling. Email looked really good and legit. At this point I did not even remember signing up for any kind of giveaway, because this was on the 20th of August and I was on vacation from work then. Going back to the email, nothing looked out of the ordinary, like how some scams would be. So I'm like, this is too good to be true, there is no way I just won all this. So I look up Vortex's number and called them up. Guy who answered asked who sent it, I told them the person's name. He's like yeah that person does actually work here in marketing, let me transfer you over. Mind you I'm still at work, but I'd rather be cautious than jump into it and get sucked into a scam. Was on hold for about 10-15 minutes. Guy came back on and said that the person in marketing was not at their desk but congrats you in fact did win. So I confirmed the email.

So about an hour and a half later, I'm up at lunch and got another email from the person at Vortex and said so and so told me you had called. Several back and forth emails later, got my address sent and the FFL of my choice squared away.

So yesterday got the tracking information email for the optic and sling. Then today, I had received an email from the FFL that the rifle was in and I could come in at any time to pick it up. So went over there after work and picked up the rifle. Other than the coat of gas and the $30 FFL transfer fee, pretty much got the rifle for free.

It is an M4E1, but it's kind of a parts bin build. The upper and hand guard were not coated together so there is a shade difference in color. Has the Ambi charging handle and safety which is nice, don't have to get a different charging handle. Came with a 30rd P-mag and a neon green chamber safety.

This rifle is stupid LIGHT compared to my PSA PA-10 in .308. Now I need to buy another ammo can for nothing but 5.56x45mm. Sadly, optic had not shown up yet as that is being delivered through UPS.

Never did I think I ever had a chance at winning this.

Nice score, somebody's gotta win. I always sign up for the Geissele giveaways but I'm not on Instagram and can't like their page on there, says it doesn't hurt your chances but I always wonder in the back of my mind if it does, also wonder if buying something gets you a few more entries. I won a ruger American 30-06 but it turned into a whole thing, big family spat, jealous angry uncles so I bowed out and let them fight themselves over it...

Congrats, that's an awesome win!

Congrats on the win and that's a nice looking rifle!

As @GBExpat said, a lot of rifles, heck, a lot of firearms done up in FDE have color mismatch. Sometimes not even subtly different. That one looks pretty good to me.

Congratulations @Hunter 08 That’s pretty darn cool!
I have never won anything decent in any of my attempts.

When I was in the Navy I bought a raffle ticket for a very nicely maintained 1958 Dodge Coronet at my home town Fair. The tickets were for a good cause. Nearly a year later I was on leave visiting my hometown and found out that I did win that car, but they couldn’t get a hold of me so they pulled another ticket. 😆
So, I guess I did win something decent, I just wasn’t around to take possession of it. Back in 1980 it was hard to get phone calls at sea…probably still is. 😆

I hope it turns out to be the best and most accurate AR you’ll ever own.

I had entered quite a few times when Classic Firearms on YouTube would do their giveaways. Haven't had a Facebook account since 2016 and have no intentions of making a new one. Giveaways like those always potentially have a lot of people, in the realms of a few thousand or maybe over ten thousand. When people were trying to get one of their Giveaway ARs a couple years ago and they were sharing it on Twitter, Crossfire II would be in the trending section of Twitter with a few thousand posts over the course of a couple hours of the video dropping.

Congratulations on your win, you lucky dog. I have never won anything worth squat until last year, My son entered a sunrise picture I had taken in the local art show's photography show and it took second place garnering me $50 in prize money. Who won first you ask? He did so it was father and son win. I was quite surprised as I expected it to be ignored. Photography skills might run in the family as my oldest GG daugher garnered three firsts and a seventh place at our fair this year.

Please post a range report on your new toy.

Congratulations! I wouldn't sweat the slight difference in color. Let us know how it shoots.
Will do. May try to get video of a range day. Was supposed to go tomorrow, but since this dropped into my hands and my optic won't be here until at least Monday, it's being postponed until next week. Plus still need to get some 5.56 ammo.

Was also thinking on getting Magpul flip up iron sights. Anyone have thoughts on these or maybe better ones?

I have owned several sets of Magpul MOE sights and I liked them. Good for 100 yard shooting, but beyond that, for me, they weren’t “fine” enough. The front post is a bit wide for tight groups but definitely okay for punching holes in the center of full size silhouette targets at 100.
They also took a bit of a beating on one gun I had and never changed settings.

Wow, great win!

The only luck I have is bad. 😒

The Magpuls are GTG. There's the "Pro-series" and Gen2s, but I still prefer the original MBUS.

the magpul mbuis are pretty much standard and they work. I've never used the magpul pro flip ups but I have Magpul MBUS on every AR I own but I think buying the pros for an extra $80-$100 are worth it because most of the internet says so. If you're not opposed to fixed irons the daniel defense set will run you about $150, I'm looking to get a pair of those myself for a KISS carbine, the budget pair I bought that I thought would be good turned out to be total crap.

The budget set I bought were wonderful for about a year, but after alot of use and some inclement weather they turned out to be disappointing garbage. You really do get what you pay for.

Will do. If I can't go next weekend to a range up north, I'll see if I can go to the one Hornady now operates and manages.
