So is it time to buy a few revolvers before they go sky high?

Since like the stock market," buy the rumor, sell the news", works, is this the time to pick up a couple 5 or 6 shot 38 or 357 mags, and put them in the safe. You may make some money on the assumption that this is going to be the preferred weapon for carry, even though I don't believe that for a second.
Undoubtablly things will be going up in the short term.
 
Better to spend your money donating to the 2nd Amendment Foundation and the NRA than banking on panic and suffering.
 
I don't think revolvers are a threatened type of gun at the moment, nor do I think their value will escalate as the result of any pending legislation. Buy some if you want some, but I think the speculation on that issue will get you little in return.

Personally, here's what I expect to see happening in the next few months:

1) Proposed assault weapons ban, to include firearms that slipped through last time. I think all AR-15 variants will be included this time, along with SKS rifles, and other rifles that slipped past the politicians last time.

2) A ban on magazines with a capacity of more than ten rounds.

3) A ban on private-party sales without a background check performed by an FFL.

I don't know if any/all of these will make it into law, but I'm nearly certain we'll see an attempt to pass laws containing those restrictions.

Agree but I think we need extra effort right now to do our part. I know boards like these thread lightly on politics (which I agree with) but I would like to see some stickies for what we should do. Petitions to sign, politicians to contact, polls to vote on ect. I hope that I am not out if line for suggesting this and apologize if I am.

I understand that point. But, in times of perceived national crisis these kinds of laws gain a lot more traction in congress. A lot of folks didn't believe that the 1994 AWB was ever going to become law, then it did. It happened then, and it can happen again. We need to stay on top of this issue, even if I hope you're right about this one!
 
The time to stock up on cheap revolvers was about 4 years ago. Now they are mostly gone and what's left is not cheap.

Yup. Surplus K frames were a dime a dozen. Heck, when I bought my first gun, my 19-3 back in 2005 (when i turned 21), i paid $295 OTD for a 98% example, and I overpaid. These days that gun is worth another 30-35%.
 
Speculation is risky. I think you would be better off contributing to gun rights organizations from your gun fund than buying revolvers.

The things that are likely to be affected if passed: AR type rifles, AK's, SKS, and similar...

Magazines
Imports

If I were a betting man, I would go with imports and magzines. Look to the past for your answer. But be careful about quantities as you might need to become a FFL to sell or licensed (with all the zoning restrictions) to do business in your city or county in order to implement the selling part.
 
I bought a # 15-4, 4" at a GS 3 weeks ago, $450 OTD. 95%, no box or docs. There were plenty of other brands avail, all higher than a cats back too, the plastic ones were being fought over, glad I got the wheel gun and left!
 
Too late. Premium prices now. AND holsters, etc and other accessories are sky high. IF you can find them.
 
was told by my distribitor that prices were going up at the first of the year on 80% of the firearms they stock. and that was before last friday.
 
Well that answers my question then! I was going to start a thread asking the following question:
My mother in-law purchased a S&W .38 SPL, so to help her out and try and re-build a bridge that had been torn down between us for years I offered to put my reloading skills to use and purchased dies and 1000 once fired brass to reload ammo for her to get comfortable shooting the gun. I just asked she pay for the bullets, I'd cover everything else.
Before she could really start shooting she broke her wrist, and has had 4 surgeries on it and because she is getting on in years she doesn't plan on doing a lot of shooting. Because of that bridge being torn down I don't think I'm in line to inherit the gun at all.
So my question was going to be. Buy a cheap, small .38 spl as a backup gun to my XD .45 or sell the reloading stuff for the .38 spl?
 
There are revolvers available, yes. '357s' are starting to demand a price, as well as scarcity of certain ammunition loads. '38s' are not affected, as much, but still are. Figure what was about 350.00, a year or two ago, are now about 450.00, depending on which ones, and who does the selling. I would buy another '38', bit I figure that i have enough 'hardware', and would do better in acquiring more 'software' to run them.
 
Hopefully everyone will be scrambling to get high cap autoloaders and the value of wheelguns and leverguns will drop. :D

Looking at people at last weekend show was more entertaining then watching Letterman. They were actually using carts to wheel out ammo in large boxes and buying semi-auto assault-style firearms. I came away with cute little stainless S&W revolver.
That is quite a spread up there.
 
I picked up a S&W Model 745 in September for $375.00. Talk about timing. I have no doubt that same pistol would now be selling for $450.00 (at least). I haven't purchased any revolvers since last year. Now I think I'll sit back and see what happens. On the other hand I am adding to my ammo supply.
 
I agree with the above poster. Hopefully, people will empty out their safes of wheel guns to finance ARs, AKs, and 30 rnd mags.I'm always in the market for Snakes and I'd like to add a Model-27 and a -28.

Been thorugh this before, and it seems a good theory, but never really materialized at local shops anyway.
 
True, Blueduck. Not everyone is a panic buyer, but I'll keep my eyes open and my fingers crossed anyway.
