So who shoots the Ruger SR1911

Its a well made gun. I personally like the plunger tube being integrally molded into the frame.

Mine has about 200 rounds downrange from me and about as many from the previous owner. My brother in law has the 5" and his wife has the 4". Combined they have a few hundred rounds each. All three guns have been flawless. They rattle a little when you shake them but they feed and fire everything we have fed them so far. Pretty darn accurate too.

If you have the 1911 itch Ruger's offering can help scratch it without spending too much coin. Several Colts, Kimbers, and even a LesBaer have passed through my collection. Currently two Colts and the Ruger 5" are what I keep around. Of the three the Ruger gets shot the most.

With Kimber, you snooze you won. :)

But that's just based on my personal experience YMMV.

The Ruger will make a great trouble free leap into the 1911 pool. 5" is the classic barrel length and is my preference, you should handle both and see which feels best to you.

I have both full size and commander SR1911's, and they are a joy to shoot. They are my first (and only) 45's so I can't compare them to anything else, but the full size has 500-600 rounds through it and the commander only has about 200 rounds, both without a single issue or problem.

I also have a Kimber 9mm Ultra Carry II 1911 that has had it's share of problems, including one issue that required a 6 week visit to the factory when it was brand new. I bought it for cc, but it's become a range gun based on it's reliability (or lack thereof).

I bought my SR 1911 a couple of months ago. It is the full sized with the 5" barrel. I kinda wish I had gotten the commander sized one now as it would be easier to carry but I have other guns that get that duty most of the time anyway. I only have a couple hundred rounds through mine but so far it has been trouble free & I shoot it better than guns I have had longer. The ergonomics work well for me. If you want to research these you might want to dig around in the 1911 subforum at rugerforum.com or the ruger subforum at 1911forum.com

I have the 5" SR1911. I have not fired a shot from it...yet. I found out a month after I bought it (NIB) that the hammer would fall without the grip safety being depressed. I put in a 5 minute phone call to Ruger and they sent me a prepaid shipping label. I dropped it off at UPS late last Friday and had an email from Ruger yesterday with a tracking number.

One of the reasons I went with the Ruger was the warranty. I know that stuff happens sometimes, and wasn't worried a bit about sending the gun back to them. Chances are very high that the problem was in the main spring. I just called Ruger to ask them if I would void the warranty if I took it apart and bent that spring. They insisted that I send it in. LOL! I do love a company that stands behind their products, and Ruger will continue to get my business because they do exactly that.

Have had a 5" SR1911 for over a year now, very rapidly promoted it to my EDC a few weeks after purchase & range eval and planning on purchasing a second. One of the sweetest 1911's I own and a great value for the money expended. Objectively has proven more functionally reliable that any of my Colts...and I still love my Colts.

Have the SR1911 Commander size. Good, solid gun. I carry it around the house and carried it some as EDC. It got replaced by my Lightweight Commander on weight alone.

I have the full size. Love it. I shoot better than friends who have different, much more expensive brandsm Dan Wesson, Colt, Para Ord, Springfield. They even shoot better when the pick it up.

Just shy of 1000 rounds and not one FTF, FTE. Not one.

I'll echo what most have said.... I have it, I love it. It is a great buy for the money, yes there are better guns out there, but it seems to be a favorite among the under $800 group.

I really like my 5" (added pachmayr presentation grips, ordered reduced power mainsprings). I will be getting some adjustable target sights. It really has a lot of accuracy potential and with the weight of all the steel it's a real pussycat to shoot. Reliability has been top notch. In other words, you can't go wrong.

I've got between 2500 and 3000 rounds through mine since last April. It's the full-size. I fired 300 or 400 FMJ factory loads through it before switching to 200gr lead semi-wadcutters that I load. The only issues I've ever had was one range session, my 2 factory magazines (all I had at the time) were so gummed up with lead bullet lube from my reloads that I had some cycling failures, but cleaning the mags is all I did, and it's been 100% since. I absolutely love the Ruger SR1911.

The only things I've done to it were to change the grip panels and adding the skateboard tape to the front strap for grip. The Hogue grips I tried were too fat and the Pearce finger grips that mount under the grip panels were nice, but still made the grip fatter than I liked. Similar to one post above, my grip safety was loose enough to rattle - wasn't unsafe but I removed the mainspring housing and pulled the grip safety spring leg out a bit to firm up the tension and that took care of it.

Almost picked up the Commander sized one a while back but the store was charging a stupid amount for it. Picked up a NIB Kimber Pro Carry II (which has been amazingly fantastic so far) for $60 more.

I love the love the Ruger is gettin' as I still want to pick up the Gov't size once I find one for the "right" price.

A couple of years ago when Ruger first released the SR I wanted one so bad I could taste it. Unfortunately I think Ruger only made three of them that year so finding one didn't happen and it just made me like my S&W's more. One of these days I'll find a Commander size one and it'll go home with me though. The unfortunate part nowadays is that the gun shops are charging MSRP plus a BUNCH for these things.

In my opinion they're a great gun, if you find one that isn't too far up on the price scale snatch it up, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I ordered 5 the day they were announced as a group-buy, we only got one or two...18 months later I found a lightly used one for $590. I'm very pleased with it, although I only have about 200 rounds through it.

I own the 5 inch version. Great gun, you won't be disappointed if you buy one. I think it's a great bang for the buck if you are looking for a 1911.

Great gun for the money.
Compared to my SD 1911-A1. The SD has a tighter slide fit and is and has no clank to it, but the Ruger is hands down a better shooter out of the box. Trigger is fantastic for an out of the box gun at that price and accuracy is quite good as well. Its a great buy in my opinion. Looking to at some point add the commander.
