That's fine with me. Just being in the same room makes me tingle all over....

That's the same way I use to feel when I was a kid and my Mom would take me to a toy store!

Backing up a little, the Pederson device was going to give the soldiers a high-capacity semi-auto for point-blank use when storming trenches. That would have been a huge improvement in firepower over the bolt-action rifles they were made for, and the .30 cal. pistol round was planned to be enough to neutralize enemy soldiers in that close combat. My FIL has a Springfield MK 1 set up for the Pederson device.
The M1903 already had an accessory for storming trenches and point-blank fighting: the bayonet.

The Petersen device was intended to provide "walking fire" or suppressive fire as we call it now, as the troops advanced over contested ground, not for use IN the trenches, per se. It was well recognized at that time that the shotgun, pistol, and blade would be more effective at that point.

Especially the shotgun! When you have the Germans protesting the use of pump action shotguns by our Doughboys (yes the same Germans who used poison gas, flamethrowers, aerial terror bombings, and unrestricted submarine warfare), you know you've got a mighty powerful and effective weapon there!

Wouldn't want to face a foxhole full of angry Landsers with MP18s, but if I had to, gimme a 12ga A5 Trench gun!:)

Make mine a Winchester '97 trench gun and I will be right there in the trenches with you! And give them a bit of the cold steel with a M1917 bayonet just for good measure!

I was up at the Buffalo Bill Museum today, just outside and above Golden, Co.. They had some Indian guns on display and one is a cut down Trapdoor. By cut down it's had the stock sawed off just past the grip and the barrel was only about 12 inches long. Nasty looking thing and I sure wouldn't want to shoot it.

They had some other guns on display as well that had been owned by Buffalo Bill. Nice little museum and worth the 5$ to tour.

Have you ever pumped a '97? They didn't call it the "knuckle-buster" for nothing, lol!
They look cool, but I would rather have almost any other trench gun than the Winchester. I actually had one of these and foolishly sold because I couldn't find a hanguard or bayonet lug at the time:

Have racked a lot of pump shotguns over the years, the Model '97 included. Never any problems with any of them. All time favorite (and smoothest too), would be a vintage Ithaca Model 37.
