SUFFOLK -- A 25-year-old woman was charged with reckless handling of a firearm when a round she fired accidentally pierced her neighbor's bed while the neighbor was sleeping.
Nicole T. Hancock believed someone was breaking into her condominium in the Harbour View area when she pulled out her 9mm handgun Thursday morning and fired four rounds through her closed bedroom door, Suffolk police Lt. Debbie George said.
The rounds passed through the wall and into her neighbor's condominium. One round traveled through the bed covers on the bed where the neighbor was sleeping and came to rest on the floor, George said.
The noise that startled Hancock turned out to be a woman who noticed Hancock had left her house keys in the door and was trying to return them to Hancock, George said.
