The Audit Bureau of Circulation has just released the figures for the first half of 2004. The NRA based publications seem to be stable. Primedia magazines- Guns and Ammo gained about 2000 in paid circulation, Shooting Times Picked up about 4,000 and Handguns lost 8,000. Shotgun News has a circulation of 111,000+

The publisher of American Handgunner and Guns Magazine didn't file a report.

The number of threads, hits etc on this forum definately is getting impressive. In one way though, THR is way, way far behind all of the print magazines. In comparison with the print magazines, THR has NO advertisements.

I'm trying my best to keep up with the gun rags, I'm posting while wearing a flowered shirt and a big silly hat. Later I'll write about beach volleyball and then recycle an article I wrote 5 years ago with new pics. Then I'll write an article about how to buy a surplus rifle that has not been available since before 1968 that I copied from some other gun hack.:D

Having no advertisements is not a failure of THR. It was never intended to generate revenue or even pay for itself.

Same deal for TFL, though in the spirit of honesty and not hiding a light under a bushel we now have a SWAT Magazine/Group One banner at the top of each page on TFL.

Yes I did. I was being sarcastic.
However, I decided to flip through a magazine the other day and see just what the balance between advertisement and the other stuff might be. I got confused and lost count but one thing did impinge on me. The advertisements told me more about what's new out there than the articles did. A lot of them had nicer pictures than the articles did. Ok. I'll stop with the sarcasm.

And growing by 2,300+ posts per day. That's a lot of chatter!

el tejon: don't forget to get chrono numbers from a new wondergun (with it's own wonderammo), and then pronounce it to be the best gun and ammo ever, regardless of the numbers you publish.

oh, and break at least one rule while posing for a picture showing off your shirt.

Did Shooting Times and Guns and Ammo really sell more magazines or did they buy some of their own copies to make the advertisers happy? I noticed that their Handguns Magazine dropped from 128,000 to 120,000 making a net loss for the prime media gun magazines.

Guns and American Handgunner have been reporting 30,000 and 63,000 more readers on their internet pages than ABC gave them in 2003. Could be they didn't report because of the fall off in readership.
