I've never been impressed with the quality of pistol cleaning rods and quit looking for a good one years ago. Told myself I would just make my own but never got a round to it until Monday. I had one 1/4" brazing rod left in my supply and that was my rod material. I cut one piece long enough for 8" barrels with 1 1/2" extra to insert in a handle made from 1 1/8" oak dowel, the same dowel I used for my handle in the reloading thread. I cut another to handle up to a 5" barrel. I drilled and tapped both 8-32, epoxied the handles on, stained them, and finished them with Min-Wax polyurethane varnish and I have a couple of nice cleaning rods. I'll make the same from 3/16" brazing rod later this week for 22 rimfire pistols and I'll be in good shape for cleaning rods.

I don't have a picture. It's almost as simple as a rock. Just a piece of 1/4" rod tapped 8-32 on one end with the other end epoxied into a piece of wooden dowel.
