Because the 14th amendment specifically prohibits the government from denying people their rights based on race. The 2nd amendment protects that right. They may engage in doublespeak to say that it doesnt, but we all know it does.

More importantly, blacks would become a solid republican voting block if they were to actually come out in the open and say such things. Its kind of sad that black people havent caught on the fact that the only places with strict gun control are the places they live and that maybe there is a connection.

I'm in Virginia, a red state, and home to Richmond, one of the most violent cities in the United States.

We have more than our fair share of gangs and drugs in this state, and are well versed in the violence that comes with it.

And how does Richmond tend to vote?

I think the turning point comes when the major cities outnumber the entire rest of the state and can either rewrite state law or prevent state law from preempting them from writing restrictive local laws. In Florida, we are almost entirely a low-crime, mostly rural state with loose gun control. With the notable exception of miami, where a little less than half the population lives. But miami is fortunately not able to exert much influence over the entire rest of the state. Thus, the gun laws of florida remain relatively liberal.

Compare that to NY, where the divide is almost identical, expect NYC is ten times larger than miami and NY is less densely populated in the upstate regions.

Beerslurpy makes a good point. The "swing states" are states where the rural and urban populations are roughly equal.
