    Layton declares gun war

    By STEVEN CHASE
    Friday, June 4, 2004 - Page A8

WINNIPEG -- NDP Leader Jack Layton is pitching voters on a Canadian-led
    campaign
for tougher U.S. gun laws that includes bending the ears and twisting arms
    of
    American congressmen.

He says Ottawa should send envoys to Washington to fight for strict firearm
    laws
in the United States because American weapons smuggled into Canada are a big
cause of gun violence in this country.

"We are proposing going across the border . . . and actively engaging in
lobbying to have gun-control laws in the United States strengthened," he
    said
during a campaign stop in the Prairies yesterday.

He's especially concerned about preventing any relaxation of U.S. laws that
might result in more types of guns flowing north.

New Democrats also want assault and automatic weapon sales banned in Canada
    and
a security curtain thrown up at ports and borders to stop an influx of
    contraband U.S. firearms.

"We want a dramatic stepping-up of efforts to stop illegal guns coming
    across
    the border."

Overhauling the gun registry is not mentioned in the NDP's 63-page election
platform. But Mr. Layton was very clear on his intentions yesterday. "We've
    said
it needs to be fixed," Mr. Layton said. "It's been botched terribly."

Liberal Leader Paul Martin's party has committed to rework the registry, and
    the
Conservatives have pledged to scrap it.

NDP officials later clarified Mr. Layton's remarks, saying the party would
    try
to fix the registry and replace it, or scrap it, if that was not possible.

Veteran NDP MP Lorne Nystrom of Regina opposes the registry as an
    ineffective
waste of money. He said at least three other NDP MPs agree with him.

He said he believes the NDP has no consensus position on the matter and that
    Mr.
Layton's comments likely reflect his own opinion.

I think the NRA or GOA needs to go to Canada and lobby FOR gun Rights, see how he likes that,

And while we're at it charge every Senator and Congressman who panders to foreign governments with TREASON

I have been to Ottawa several times in the past few years and the newspapers are full of editorials against the gun registration scheme and against the disaster that the nationalized health care has become.

The Gun registration scheme has now cost the government over 1 Billion dollars and compliance is very low, especially in the western part of the country.

Many Canadians opt to come to the USA for emergency healthcare because the waiting list is too long in Canada. It can take up to 6 months to get a MRI, but after 5 p.m. the medical centers can charge for veterinarian services and your dog can get right in.

The newspapers here in the USA don't carry stories about the Canadian experiment in Socialism going the same path as those who failed before them. The liberal media here should just change their name to Pravda West.

Liberals like this were the first to scream that the USA has no business going into other people's nations (Iraq) and telling them 'how to live'. But coming into the USA and telling Americans how to live... well, that's different!

EDIT: I agree, any Congress person caught trying to pass American laws for the sake of people living in Canada should be charged with treason.

No, the big cause of gun violence in your country, like every other western country that has ever tried it, is highly restrictive gun laws, and no legal means to carry concealed for self-defense. This has been proven over and over again. I cannot believe it is out of stupidity that they ignore this blaringly obvious fact. It has to be an evil intent to impose socialism world-wide under a one-world master government. You cannot impose such a horrendous system on a free people, so they must first be made slaves to the state, which means they must first be disarmed by government.

Layton is a socialist TOOL, and he's pandering to the sheeple in downtown Toronto who are worried they can't go pick up some milk without being caught in a Jamaican gangster drive-by; the GOOD thing about this is that the NDP has never polled more than 20%, so he has NIL chance of putting any of this into effect.

What a fool! Obviously, the cause of crime is criminals, not firearms.

They have a problem with guns coming into their country so their solution is to attempt to penalize us? I have an idea, stop being lazy, and start patroling your own borders a little more effectively.

Ohh, and by the way, Canada, your lease is up, and we need the parking space, could you get the lights on your way out...

Wouldn't it be great if we could get all gun owners to BOYCOTT all Canadian products, and totally boycott fishing and hunting trips to Canada?

Then we could tell them to repeal their gun laws, and we would call off the boycott.

Hey! If it's fair for them, why not us?

I personally don't like the idea of invading a country where THEY look too much like US. I want to know who I'm shooting at. Now in the next North South thing I'll just listen for them talking before I shoot.:D

Don't worry. Us Canadians with sense won't vote for these idiots. Full of crap. I just turned 18 so I get to vote and I'm going conservative. They say they will scrap the registry. These dumbass doesn't speak for anyone but himself. A a Canadian my biggest dream would be the US invading and me having the RIGHT to have firearms. As I have said before on this board after I'm done school hopefully I can move to a better place like Vermont. All the smart Canadians are on www.canadiangunnutz.com

I know of a group of Boy Scouts looking for a public service project.
They should be able to handle it nicely.
Might make for a good looking merit badge.
