Sometimes a company listens

Mexican restaurants in Oklahoma City named Chileno's, right after the Oklahoma open-carry law went into effect, posted 'no carry' signs.

So I wrote to them, noting that they'd had lots of CCW customers over time with no problems, that if they preferred 'no open carry' they could post that, but to tell everyone "We don't trust you to carry in our business anymore" isn't good.

They did reply, quite politely, and said "We will consider what you have to say."

Today I got this from them:
"After reading the e-mails that were sent to us, we have decided to change our policy on "no weapons". We have changed our signs to now say "No Open Carry". We will receive the new signs sometime next week.

We agree with your reasoning and acknowledge that we rushed into our first decision without considering the facts that have been mentioned by many of you.

Being a family friendly restaurant, we do not believe in allowing guns to be seen by children or their families while they enjoy their meals. That is why we will keep "No Open Carry" as our policy.

We are truly thankful that you took the time to write to us and let us see the issue through your point of view.

We do not want to lose you as customers and are now confident in this new policy. We hope to see you back in our restaurants soon!

Which makes me very happy, both because they actually did pay attention to what we had to say, and because I can start eating there again. Sometimes, polite contact with people on this can pay off.

While that's good they changed their policy slightly, it's a sad day in America where people are in the mindset of

They were never dismissive, or nasty; they actually listened to what we had to say, and considered it, and did change their policy; these are Good Things.

I understand their policy and it is fair to everyone. They are trying to create a pleasing atmosphere for all of their customers and this is the best way. It is no different than a "no shirt, no service" sign. It doesnt hurt anyone to cover their gun or torso but it may allow other to relax and enjoy their meal. Good job.

That sort of pegs my natural cynicism meter. Don't let the precious little bambinos see someone responsibly carrying a real firearm, but let them play WoW and GTA all day long.

Still, at least it's start.
