My son shot in a JROTC Biathlon competition for the first time on Saturday. It was a “run 1 mile” set up; so they run 1/3 mile, shoot prone, run 1/3 mile, shoot standing, run 1/3 mile and finish by shooting kneeling. 10 shots per string at 10 yards.

He’s a good runner (fastest on the team), but he’s only shot for a couple of weeks so his on-target performance will only improve :).

He didn’t finish high (a teammate got 2nd male overall and their No. 1 coed team was 3rd) but he did get a “2 bullseye” medal for two clean bulls out of his 30 shots. (The bull on the NRA AR-5/10 is about 3/32”, that’s doggone tiny!)

I’m proud of how far he’s come along in about a month, hopefully by next year he’s keeping them in the hunt for team overall awards. :)

Stay safe.

Very cool. Well done.

I competed in biathlon in prep school in New England. I wasn’t very good, but it was fun. I was reasonably quick as a skier but couldn’t get my heart rate down and was an awful shot. I have also done snowshoe and muzzle loader biathlon as an adult. I wasn’t very fast and didn’t shoot well. It was still fun.

Thanks guys, he’s pretty stoked.
I used to run summer biathlon back when my knees were 100 years younger than they are now; 2k run 5 shots standing, 2k run 5 shots prone, 1k sprint.
I used the blue Marlin .22 Biathlon rifles, some of the real competitors used Feinwerkebau or Anschutz rifles. The targets were the Olympic standing targets; 4.5” round metal plates at 30 yards.

I made it to a 3rd place shoot-off one time… but the lady I shot against for the bronze beat me 4/3. She went home with the medal and a brick of Eley Tenex. :)

Stay safe.

picts and description of the gun would be nice... congrats

It’s a Crosman Challenger PCP with the standard diopter sights.

(Stock photo, his gun is at school right now.)

I picked it up at Champions Choice, it was about $600 shipped (The high pressure air pump was another $200.)

It looks like the price has gone up a few bucks since I ordered. :(

I got him a shooting glove, sling and hand stop as well. :)
Stay safe.
