Just ordered a CZ75b-SA Anything i need to know? I am new to pistols, only had a few rifles in the past. Should be here next tues.

Any good sites for cleaning/ maintenance on cz's?

Anything I should know about the gun? I know the trigger gets better with use. Is dry firing ok without snap caps?

Any other words of wisdom. I like info, and never have enough.

You should be able to dry fire with or without snap caps without issue.

Words of wisdom? Well cz forum can help with with any questions you may have. I for one own a CZ 2075 Rami in 9mm and a PCR in 9mm. Both have not failed me. Shoot safely and keep'em in the 10 ring.

Look at the slide serrations. Do you see a small hole through the slide? Is the roll pin inside the slide doubled or do you just see one thickness of copper? If the roll pin is doubled, dry fire away. If not, use high quality snap caps like A-Zoom or Pachymar.

Is the trigger injection molded delrin or steel? If it is the black plastic one, never try to pull the trigger when the hammer is not cocked or the manual safety is engaged. Flexing the plastic trigger constantly will eventually break it. That's why CZ went to the metal trigger. My plastic trigger is still going strong after seven years.

Ordered it new. Should have the metal trigger, don't know about the roll pin yet. Good to know before dry firing lots if it has a different pin though.

Also, is the inside of the grips flat or curved, can't seem to find a good picture. If it's flat, would like to make some grips out of g-10.

Most grips are slightly concave inside, but I have seen many flat custom grips, including the ones my pistol wears in the picture above.

Grips, or grip material. Maybe some sights. Half a dozen mags. The time to do a full polish of feed ramp and such. And it will be lonly in a fwe months.... wants to invite friends to live here, FNP-9, Glock, and many more.

cars made me broke, but CZs put me into debt. seriously. handguns started for home defense, and on my first trip to the range i was like, ohh, look, they're plinking. they had a poster in there while i plinked, ooh look USPSA. i shot USPSA. ohh, well damn this is fun.

it was a slippery downhill from there.

Oh well, cheaper than car parts, Or computer parts (another of my fairly expensive hobbies ).
Knives are still cheaper, no ammo. And I can do all the wrok on those myself.

Well I build my computers. Which puts it in the price range of a pretty nice custom gun.

I decided to not upgrade, and try something new. So a pistol is now on it's way. Am looking forward to it.

i used to build computers too. when it first came out, i put an abit bp-6 with two celeron 366 at 550 and 768 megs of ram. in 1998 you know what that ran for, especially with the g400/voodoo 2 SLI setup cost. today, it's sitting in a closet, an expensive brick. ouch! but hey, it beat my friend's dual p2/450 running 3dmark2000 back in the day for much less than what he built his machine for!

i also remember trying to break the 1ghz barrier. used a coppermine 733 on an asus i820 board with pc-800 rdram. that wasn't cheap either. in new jersey, i put it in the driveway with a box fan pointing in while the snowing was stopped. i got the chipset to -3C and the cpu to -1C and was able to get to IIRC 993 or 997 mhz. At those speed i could get into windows, but when i tried to get the wcpuid screenshot it would freeze. doh.

Ah a fellow over-clocker, in a gun forum.... Best over clock I have had so far was my 2.8 fx-62 to 3.2 on air. Had my ddr2 800 ram to 1040mhz.

I like tweaking things. Making things run faster and smoother. The guns I have i can't do anything to, mostly because of sentimental value. Both my rifles were given to me by my grandpa.

After taking apart, polishing, buffing, reassembling, and sharpening dozens of knives. Making $30 knives work like customs. I wanted something more involved. So a auto pistol looked like a good plaything. And the original CZ, the one the the front of the slide/ frame was flatter. Was just a pretty gun. One of the few guns I want for collecting. So I went for the CZ to be my first experiment in pistol ownership.

the hook that got me into guns.... i bought one shortly after proposing to a long time g/f for home defense, plus for the outdoors to carry in the middle of nowhere.

next day i was working on the nova and the pitman arm was practically welded to the gearbox and center link. my jaw pullers kept slipping and i was cussing in the heat. i went inside. i saw the CZ-40b in the corner that i just bought. i was holding a screwdriver already, so.....

The first part of that sounds remarkable similar to me. Wanted a easy to shoot gun that my wife could shoot for home defense.

Had her shoot my .22 rifle, and 30-30. (she shot a better group than I did with the .22) And starting talking with her about what guns do what, how they work. (got her to carry a knife the same way.)

She is looking forward to shooting the CZ, even helped pay for it. She isn't into the computer building much, maybe she will like guns more, I am hoping.

No need to buy snap caps.

I dry fire my CZs buy taking a piece of post it note, folding it into a dense little square and wedging it in the back of the slide.

Others have reported using rubber orings to good effect as well.

Will be tweaking the gun as much as I can with the tools at hand. Mostly polishing feed ramp etc, got all the fine sandpaper from working on knives. I can make a knife open smooth as ice so I want to get my hands on the gun so I can take it apart and mess with its insides.

Cars usually just take me from a-to-b, Usually sideways on gravel roads. Have a 1991 celica the cheap 1600cc version, because... My 95 Jetta III started failing badly, lots of electrical problems, some suspension problems. And I didn't (still don't) have the time/ money to fix it all. Will probably sell it and try to get another car, hopefully a Subaru, or another VW.

Got a new job... so, nearly double income might help pay for some of my hobbies. Maybe a new car, so my wife can drive a manual transmission, which she wanted to do, but for some reason Americans like to be lazy and not move their left foot while driving. Which makes the standard transmission a little rare here... it's a shame.
