Sure, I'm a reloader, so I'm looking for those cheap pulled 8mm bullets today.....

My M98 really likes the 196-grain "heavy" Mauser military rounds, but those are getting scarce. Anybody got a line on relatively cheap 8mm bullets for reloading? I'd still buy the 196-grain milsurp, if you guys have seen any of that lately, other than the spendy "sniper" Yugo ammo.

Thanks, gents, for any suggestions.

jjohnson - if want primed brass and 200 gr bullets, you may want to take a look at Hooked's post over on the "buy, sell, trade reloading components". Looks like a great deal to me. I'd jump on it, but my Mauser seems to like 150 gr bullets better. P51D

The cheapest bullet for the 8x57 are cast lead bullets ostensibly sold for the .32-40 Winchester. I usually pay about $35 per 500. Here’s some being sold on Midway….

Kinda expensive, but you get the idea. Lots of small casting companies sell lead bullets in 8mm.

Some will even work with you, and cast the bullet slightly oversized, (actually, they just don’t size them at all. You buy “as cast”. Shoot’em that way, or resize them youself, as needed) since you might have better luck with a 0.323” or 0.324” bullet.

I think Montana will do that for you. Basically, bigger diameters are better. Anything undersized probably won’t shoot all that well in your rifle. Sized right is best., of course. Sized a few thousand over is not a big deal. Barrel leading and bad accuracy are due to undersized bullets… not oversized.

Size is everything. Don't get hung up on hardness, it's not that important (contrary to conventional wisdom).

Beware, though. If you ain’t tried it before. Shooting lead in your old milsurp can be a ton of fun.
