1) 31 less sod poodles

2) Hot as hell(103 degrees currently)

3) Bad fires all over.

Flew into Rapid City, SD yesterday and was picked-up by good friends and hunting partners Ken and Vern Lunde. Treated them to lunch at the Firehouse Brewery....best damn fish-n-chips on the planet. I crashed early from a long day of travel.

We got up this morning and headed over to 33 acres Ken and Vern own. They have an awesome range set up on it. I had a Cooper Phoenix in .204 Ruger that I had just finished with the barrel break-in before I left. I had not shot it seriously with my reloads. The 1st group was 3 shots that were just under 0.25" at 100 yards. I adjusted the scope up 3 clicks and fired another 3 rounds. This group was just a hair over 0.25" at 3/4" over the bullseye. I had my 200 yard zero and knew that it was shooting great. This rifle was ready to rock.

We headed out in hope of finding a decent dog town. The plague killed 2/3s of the population this year. Ken's dad Vern picked a good spot on a whim. I hit my 1st 7 shots in a row and was feeling it. We dispatched 31 (using 35 rounds) at distances from 150 to 275 yards. This was with a gusty 15-20 mph wind.

We had seen some smoke earlier from 2 bad fires raging in the area. When we looked up to see the fire headed our way we packed it in quickly.

Elk medallion stew for dinner. The man vacation is off to a good start.

Love my Coopers! The switch to Norma brass is paying off.

It had leaped the road behind me....burned this land...then dove down into a valley...it was racing up the other side towards us when we bailed.
