SP1 questions???

Thinking about hunting down and purchasing myself a good old fashioned SP1 pretty soon. I would like some input from you folks here at TFL on the rifle. Are they as reliable as the new AR's? Do they suffer from any of the problems so often encountered with the early ones in Vietnam, or was it just that powder problem? Do they have chrome lined bores and chambers? How's their accuracy? Thanks.

I have a 1979 Colt SP1.

Functions flawlessly. It might have malfed, but I can't recall it happening.

Chrome-yes.

Accuracy - yes.

They are the best of the AR15s, imho. Accurate, no malfunctions, handy, light.

I have an SP1 and its woked perfect for 25 years. For an "all around" AR15 its hard to beat. I have the H-Bar and the carbine type also and each has its advantage but the lightweight SP1 is still the king of the heap IMHO.

I shot a Tac Carbine class with a guy who was about 21 and brought his Dad's SP1. It functioned flawlessly over two days of some pretty intense shooting and at the end he'd had a couple offers to buy it.

Colt SP-1s are the King of AR-15s, i have two rifles & 1 Carbine & a bunch of other Colt AR-15s, but the SP-1s are tops !!

IMO the SP-1 is far superior to any M-4gery or other "lightweight" tactical rifle/carbine. Lightweight, accurate, and it still has a full 20" of barrel. About the only thing you would be at a handicap using one in is NRA Highpower. But that is just my version of the story.

I used to have one. Excellent gun. My only criticism is that the polymer used to make the A2 stocks today is superior to the older polymer. Unless you beat your rifle around rather vigorously, that shouldn't be a problem though.
