Where would I look for a set of spare barrels for my recently acquire Winchester 101 20ga? I bought a really nice used Winchester 101 20 with skeet/skeet barrels. I would like to find barrels with fixed Full/modified chokes. No, I will not consider boring out the barrels for screw-in chokes. Let me know if you know of a source. Thank you for the help.

Fastest easiest and probably cheapest way is to buy another Winchester 101 complete shotgun with the chokes you want.

I've been looking high and low for a Winchester 101 20ga with 28-30" barrels for a long time. The one I bought is a fine specimen and I'm happy to own it. I can find 26" barrels, but will insist on at least 28". I'll keep looking.

A figment of my memory makes me think it is possible that 20ga 101s never came with 28" barrels. Only 12s.

I didn't make the issue clear in my posts. The one I just bought has 28" barrels, but are skeet/skeet choked. I'm hoping to find 28" barrels in full/modified or even 30". Help appreciated

Not very many barrels for that gun out there. Some guns came with 2 or more barrel sets and sometimes they get broken up. Over the years I have seem maybe 3 or 3 barrels for sale and there seemed to be something wrong with all of them. On place to to check is Midwest Gun Works. They have had replacement 101 barrels in the past. If they are still around Corson's barrels would be good to check. Keep looking but do not count on finding what you want. Or maybe you will. There was a shop called Eagle Trading company run by Chris Sowers that specialized in 101's. I think he has closed shop but you might try running it on google and see. He was selling some stuff on ebay also.

When I called Briley about my 26" barreled 101 they told me the barrels were too thin to thread. However a friend has a 28" 20 gauge that does have Briley chokes in it.

Mike Orlen can do a jug choke that will tighten those barrels up to ic or mod.

Basically I think looking for another gun will be as cheap as getting a barrel set and getting it fitted.

If you do find one, it’s highly unlikely that it’ll just snap on the receiver you have either!

After doing some looking, I'm not optimistic that I'll find barrels or that they would fit. I will just enjoy the one I have....it is quite nice BTW.....and use my money to buy another shotgun. Thanks for your helpful posts.

The 101 is a nice gun in 20 gauge. But...the Citori is an awful nice gun in that gauge also and they come with interchangeable chokes. And used ones run about the same money as the 101's. Maybe even a little less than a perfect 101 with 28" barrels.

I am a former 101 fan that has shot them since 1971. Up until 10 years ago. But...my new Beretta SP in 12 gauge and Citori Lightning in 20 gauge have moved the 2 remaining 101 (clones, a Classic Doubles and a Sears 400) to the back of the safe just because with the 26" barrels I cannot sell them for much. Wonderful lightweight field guns for those that still hunt though.

I only paid $900 + tax for a gun in very good conditiion. So, I'm happy, even though the choke is not ideal.

If I can ask...why not have chokes installed?
The thickness of the barrel may be insufficient to accommodate the boring out process. But honestly, it is personal preference. When I can I preserve original configurations vs altering fine shotguns, I go with preservation.

Sorry it took so long to respond back...understand about the preservation, however buddy I used to shoot with had a set of 32" barrels cut down for some reason...I have no idea how the smith did it, but the walls were EXTREMELY thin when finished...I'm talking an envelope thin...they had to be under .0625"

Briley can put Thin Wall cokes in and even do them offset to regulate if needed. The barrel set you find may have to be fit, and as earlthegoat2 says, you might as well buy another 101.

Thanks for the note. I was sitting at the computer when it arrived. Since I first started this thread, I've had 2 experiences that confirmed the wisdom of my decision to buy this shotgun. I shot a round of sporting clays with it and the S/S choke worked just fine. Will need to practice, but I shot a respectable round and am confident in the gun. Second issue.....With tax, I paid $987 out the door. There is one on GunBroker right now, with more wear than mine with a starting bid of $1795. If they get that much, shipping, tax and local FFL fee will push the final tab will exceed $2000. There is another one in worse condition (they say it has rust spots) and the bid is up to $1,000 with 5 bidders competing for it. I'm very happy with my purchase.
