Sparta and Guns

The phrase "Molon Labe" has been in common use long before that movie came out!

My point is that some, not all, adopted it because of the movie. That's why I included this sentence:

Good on those who knew and respected the histories before the films.

Especially since they didn't say it in Greek in the movie.
Aah, but Richard Egan did in The 300 Spartans. Though that movie was far inferior to 300, IMO. Pretty good for it's day, though.

There was an interesting show on History channel the other night called Last Stand of the 300, or maybe it was the military channel, but it was quite good. Many offered their take on the battle, one of which was Steven Pressfield.

Read "Gates of Fire" and you will begin to understand. You don't have to want to recreate every aspect of a rather harsh culture to appreciate the things they did superbly well. Most days I would prefer their company to the fat-a$$ culture we have become.

Read "The Republic" or at least a synopsis of it, and you will find considerable food for thought as well. Plato would understand the craziness of US politics and finances as they now are.

Human behavior doesn't change much. The phrase still has applications.
