Speer Handgun Hunting 44 Mag - 18 rounds left.

Gun season coming to a close putting some things away thought I'd snap a pic. This Speer 270gr has been great. Couldn't tell you how long ago I bought a few boxes. The gunstore has since gone under. My last 18 rounds. Next in line is either Hornady 240 xtps or sellier & bellot 240 sp's.

I have used this Speer load also, works great. Buffalo Bore, has produced a similar 270 gr JFN - nice, but expensive.

I’m using memory, but I recall a someone(uncle maybe) bemoaning running out of these. He tried a 300 gr from Sierra I believe (44 mag). I also remember some from Federal I believe it was, that was highly impressive in how it did its job.

That 270gr is pretty much a 'tweener weight, but Federal has factory ammo called "Hammerdown". Speer makes a 270gr Deep Curl bullet if one was to load one's own.

....and it is a good bullet for deer size game. I have loaded both the 270 and the 240gr Deep Curls. I have found terminal performance between the two to be moot on deer, even from a carbine, so I stick with the 240s for a little flatter trajectory.

I load up the 240gr Deep Curls, and they shoot well for me, but I'm just shooting paper anymore.

My 629 Classic likes 18.5 gr. of 4100 under the 270 Deep Curl.

The load on the left is actually quite tolerable recoil-wise:


when shot out of a full size 44 magnum gun. also, I think Buffalo bore makes a 270 grain 44 special load you may want to look into as a softer shooter in your gun(s).

going to check out the BB 44 spl. sounds like a good one for a light weight 44

stopped by a little shop a retired gentleman opened up in a new steel building on his property, and came across 4 boxes of GOLD DOT 270gr GDSP. Said "those have been on the shelf awhile"... I asked if he minded if I buy him out...

lol quick math for fun. I have 118 rounds of it now. If I use it exclusively hunting and shoot an avg of 5 times per season, I'll be in business for 23.6 years of hunting and be 66 years old before I have to luck into more.
Last season I discharged a firearm 3 times, season prior if I remember correctly I got skunked during firearm season and never fired a gun once while hunting.... so this could be the last 44 mag ammo I'll ever need ... Life measured by ammo
