I've bought 2 handguns from Sportsman's Warehouse. But I had them shipped to the closest store (125 miles away), no shipping cost, smooth as silk transaction, worth the trip with my wife and lunch/road trip. As I recall, each showed up within a week. I can't expect much more or less to your local FFL.
Whatcha going to get?
-jb, a Sportsman's fanboy, no affiliation, blah blah
on a gouging note, they were the only store during the Plandemic that keep there reloading components prices the same! they have my business for life
I ordered a Christensen Arms Mesa in 6.5 PRC! Thanks for the info.
My only complaint, and it is a personal problem...If your delayed on your FBI background check they will make you wait. If the 'paperwork' does not come back after 30 days, you must reapply. This delay business keeps me from buying firearms from them, as I've got local dealers who will release my purchase after 5 days if the 'paperwork' is not received.
I know, it's my problem that I'm delayed and they are just following their Corporate rules...but they lost me as a firearm buyer. I've bought many firearms and the only time I wasn't delayed is when I bought an AK-47 many years ago...go figure.
on another note, on my last purchase, the form asks questions, one of which, 'are you male, female or non-binary'...*** does the FBI care if I am a lesbian trapped in a man's body? What does non-binary mean anyhow?
Sorry for venting my personal problems here... hope it's good for a laugh...about all I can do nowadays.
All that said, I still buy stuff from them.
The form is ATF 4473 and nothing to do with Sportsmans
I know that...you know that...What I'm saying is that Sportsmans policy is to not release the firearm to me after five business days, which according to the law is legal...but instead choose to wait until the Gov. actually clears the transaction, or 30 days pass, then reapply.
If, by chance the Gov. calls on any day after the 5th and 30th and denies my application, and of course, if I have gotten the piece, it's on the FFL to go get it back, I guess.
I've been through this very process many times. It is simply crazy, but I do understand a large co. does not want to be accommodating, just for one firearm, and possibly have to track me down in my cabin in the woods and...
I am not a Lawyer, thank God, but I do know how this works. Some FFL's will do it, others won't.
By the way, does that link to Gov. address exactly what a non-binary is?
There is no "paperwork" to receive, you just completed that. When a dealer gets a "delay" on a transaction, FBI NICS will tell the dealer exactly this: "NTN # 123456789, is delayed, the Brady Law does not prohibit the transfer of this firearm on month/day/year" . That date, called the MDI or Missing Disposition Date is not "after 5 days" but "three business days beginning the next business day and does not include weekends, holidays or days state offices are not open". That could easily be longer than five days.
While aggravating, you can think today litigeous society for such corporate policies. SW isn't doing it because they want to be fuddy duddies, but because they know the media would make a meal out of them if they ever transferred a gun without an actual NICS "proceed". GUN DEALER GAVE MURDERER GUN WITHOUT FBI APPROVAL!!!! is a headline no gun dealer wants.
Not just the FBI but ATF and every federal form you'll fill out from now on. The descriptive questions asked on federal forms are from the OMB and the same as on census, immigration and other federal forms.
The instructions on the Form 4473 for Question 14 "Sex" states: "Individuals with neither male or female on their identification document(s) should check Non-Binary."
they were selling primers for $50/1,000 . Caps for $5.99 a tin. powder for $35/pound. guns were mabey 5-10% over retail
Yes! Sportsman got me for life as a customer
Sportsmans Wearhouse will not. Good for them. I hope it keeps their attorney retainer fee within budget, and out of CNN headlines.
It may be because I'm so handsome in my picture on the Concealed Carry Permit I have...but in any case, I don't care, just give my double barrel ASAP and many local small business FFL's will do that. If you personally never get delayed, the point is moot...for you.
It's a personal problem of mine and don't call me Sue...I am calling myself Binary, now. (Thanks y'all for clearing up that point, I wasn't sure. Good to know the Gov't. keeps track, lots of folks don't seem to be sure what they are nowadays)
I still buy other related items from them, so... I think we're all on the same side here...unless I've crossed the line, again.
I have never ordered from them and had the gun shipped to a local FFL. If I were to do this I would make arrangements with the local FFL first. I would also consider giving the local FFL a chance to match the SW price and consider buying from them if they come close.
Welcome to THR. Congratulations on the new rifle. We would enjoy reading a range report on the rifle. Many in the group like their Christensen rifles.
Never had or got a bad deal from them.
At my age, I sometimes get in trouble if I get too far from a restroom, and not only is the Sportsman's Warehouse in town conveniently located right next door to the grocery store where my wife and I do most of our grocery shopping, it has cleaner and more well-kept restrooms than the grocery store. So almost every time my wife and I are in town doing our grocery shopping, I (and sometimes my wife) end up in Sportsman's for a little while.
It works out well for both Sportsman's and me because after I'm finished in the restroom, I wander on through the ammo aisle, or sometimes by the knife counter on my way out of the store. In fact, yesterday I picked up a couple of those silicone impregnated pistol socks when I wandered by them.
Have those things gone up? I paid $9.95 apiece for them. It seems like they were only about $6.00 apiece the last time I bought a pistol sized one. They've gone up like everything else, I guessed.
Anyway, the Sportsman's in town in this part of Idaho has clean, well-kept restrooms. And in my wife's and my cases, that pays off in retail sales for Sportsman's.
@zbritt00 we love to the forum. Have to bought any guns from sportsmans, but dud order an optic which was decently priced and delivered to my home in less than a week. I have been to the closest store twice, it's 75 miles and bought several items for reloading. The last tome I was there they were still suffering from covid related shortages, but had a good selection of goods.
I actually plan on going there tomorrow, I have yet to step inside.
I went to the one in Carson City, Nv. on Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. Zero primers, almost no powder but lots of ammo. I saw more 9mm, .380 and .45 on the shelves here than in any store in So Cal, at least 150 boxes of .30 Super Carry in several styles, and even “CCI STANGERS”… for $20 per 100.
In late 2020, early 2021 I made a trip each week, for 13 weeks.
Scheels was the best with availability. Sportsman’s second.
My only issues with Sportsman’s is not a Sportsmans issue, but a local issue.
Once I walked up to the gun counter with basically nobody around and asked if they had any primers. One clerk said, “No.” at the same time the other clerk asked, “What are you looking for?”
I told him any brand of small pistol primers. The “helpful” clerk went into the back. He came out a few minutes later empty handed. He said something to the other clerk I couldn’t understand. The “unhelpful” clerk asked him, “Do you know him?”
At that point I spoke up, loudly. “Hey guys. I’m just trying to get some primers!”
The “unhelpful” clerk went in the back and came out with a brick of CCI SPPs.
He was hoarding them for friends!!!
Another time I walked in and saw primers on the shelf. SPP, SRP and CCI SRP benchrest. I asked the guy at the gun counter, “Is your policy 1,000 primers period? Or is it 1,000 per type?”
He looked up and said, “We don’t have any primers.” I made eye contact, then looked down at my hands which held a brick in each hand. His look was priceless! Then he said “1,000 period.”
hindsight I should have just taken 2 boxes to the 21 year old clerk up front.
But I haven’t bought a gun from them but I’ve bought optics that probably cost more than any gun they sell. Behind Scheels, they are my fav.
@.308 Norma said are in his locale. They have been great to work with and I’ve actually used them as my ffl. That said, their supposed “gunsmith”… that’s another story.
