spotting scope

I am looking at buying a spotting scope to take to the range. I am not looking to spend a lot of money, $200 or less if possiable. I do not do any competition shooting yet but I might at a later date. The range max is 600 yards but I will mostly be shooting 300 yards or less. I just need some suggestions on brands, features, magnification, prices, etc. I am in no rush to buy but I am getting my plans together.

nice spotting scope

I recently purchased a Vanguard spotting scope. I really didn't know what to expect at the range, but it looked fairly clear in the store. I was very surprised to find out that i had made a very good purchase. It was the Vanguard 80, I think 30x to 80x magnification. It cost 215.00 at my local gun shop. But i'm sure you could beat that online somewhere. I hope this helps. Has anyone else had any experience with Vanguard optics?
