Which spray gun should I get for refinishing firearms? I'd prefer something better than what can be found at Harbor Freight.

You want an air brush or a HPLV gun?
My FLG said Hobby Lobby has the same air brush Brownells sells for the purpose at lower cost.
I dunno about HPLV.

Lauer sells a small, inexpensive air brush for use with their Duracoat.
These are a simply type of brush, and work very well with large out-put with thicker paints.
The only adjustment is by turning the cone that feeds the paint, but this actually seems to work better with thicker paints and large coverage.

The more professional airbrushes are best at fine detail work, often don't handle thicker material very well, and are often harder to clean.

If you intend to use a compressor, make sure it has an in-line filter to filter out moisture.

For small jobs like a receiver I personally think the airbrush is better.
The HPVL is for larger jobs or "mass production".

HPVL will do a nice job, but you can do a perfect job with a high volume airbrush and a good air supply.
Trying to do it with hobby type canned air is tough out of any system.
A lot of hobby shops and art supply stores sell airbrushes and offer a lot of good advice.
I'd talk to them, then quietly go off and buy the airbrush online where the prices are best.

Again, the simple single action cone-feed airbrushes will do a great job of spraying the heavier gun type coatings if you do your job right.
Practice with cheap paint on scrap is a great way to learn airbrush control.

A lot of people recommend an inexpensive automotive 'touch-up' spray gun - the $25 made-in-China ones are entirely adequate.

I personally prefer the control I get with an airbrush. You can get a smokin' deal by going directly to the manufacturer's website and look for 'Blems.' I paid $50 for my last airbrush - a top of the line Badger blem.

What are decent airbrush brands? How wide of a pattern can I get w/ an airbrush?
