Springfield armory pistols

I'm getting alittle paranoid about my Recoil Spring Assembly. Is the end supposed to stick like 1-2 mm out of the receiver? I assumed it is supposed to stay flush with the frame but it's hard to tell in the pictures I googled and its difficult to get to a gun store to check because I get off at 6. thanks!

Springfield's are superb guns

I own an XD9sc, XD45c, and XDm 40. They are very reliable, accurate, and come with a lifetime warranty. Although Glock makes a good gun, I prefer the Springfield as it fits my hand better and I like grip safety in addition to the trigger safety.

Yes. it's supposed to do that.

I've collected seven of them since 2004. So what do you want to know about them. :D

If you want to know about xd's I'd check the XDtalk forum. I think they're still operating, its been a few yrs since I've been on their site.

Why is it that LE agencies are not choosing the XD? It makes you wonder.

Springfield has never "given away" their guns like Glock and S&W are doing. they're hardly making any money on the guns, but they do win contracts and that seems to convince folks that makes it a superior gun.

Springfield doesn't "make" , and have never made, any of their handguns...and few of their rifles....most guns they've sold in the past has been from Italy (P9) or Brazil (1911)

Where is Croatia in Brazil? I can't seem to find it.

mayhaps i wasn't clear, i was listing where their other pistols were manufactured. their 1911 clones and HK-91 clones come from Brazil

LE agency's contract based on price...its that simple.

Clint Smith put down his 1911 in favor of the XD...I think that says something. Also...at Thunder Ranch the XD's have been nothing but accurate, reliable, user friendly, and well liked.

I bought my wife an XD 45 Compact...we shot it some that week. The next week I went back and bought me an XD 45 Compact Tactical.

Its hard to argue with 14 rounds of 45acp...especially out of an accurate reliable pistol. (15 yard target below...and yes, I stopped before I messed that fine group up, maybe only 3 rounds but it makes the point)

I picked up a XD45 a while back and have nothing but good to say about it.

I'm not criticizing and agree that some SA's are made in the countries you mentioned but I have yet to see any of the XD line manufactured in any place but Croatia.

I also believe the majority of all guns, handguns and rifles are either manufactured or parts made in countries outside of the US. I'm not condemning them because of origin, just making a statement.

I wanted to like the XD, but it felt wrong in my hand. I ended up with a S/A Micro Compact that fits like a glove. But try one out, you may love it.
I wouldn't buy any gun based on someone else's recommendation.

My XD40 is a great gun. Even better after I upgraded the trigger.

Early on, when I bought my first XD (.45GAP tactical), I decided I would concentrate on using the XD as the only gun I would use. I got tired of buying holsters, sights, and all the other stuff you can buy for a handgun. On the XD's regardless of caliber, the trigger pull is the same, the sights are the same, many of the parts are interchangeable, and I can use the same holster for all of them except the .45APC. I practiced using what came with the gun and don't do too bad with it. The downside is all the magazines, .45APC excluded, are also the same (in other words the .40 will slide into the 9 as well as the .45 GAP). It only took one mistake, and I painted the butt with different colors.

My Roomie has an XD-M in 9mm, no the M is not a typo. Sweet gun, very incredibly accurate with good ergonomics. I shoot it more than he does (hes having back surgery), its a great pistol and probably my next purchase. Im on the fence about the lack of an external safety, but it functions flawlessly so I can't complain.

I prefer the XD .45 compact to the Glock .45s (any of them), but for anything else I'd choose Glock. Just my personal preference.

Same here. I've got a Glock 19 and an XD 45 compact. For .45's the XD feels much better, but for the 9mm, it's the Glock. Shouldn't make sense, but it does for me.

Should've qualified my remarks better... Meant to say the reasons I have my 45 (powerful, ubiquitous round) and the way it shoots (smooth, controllable) makes it an easy choice versus the xd9. If you don't have to choose, so much the better! I wish I could shoot my 45 every day but that's not why I got it and can't afford to shoot centerfires all the time anyway. Besides, that's what my Browning 22 pistol is for! Rimfire madness, baby, and it's more accurate! It must be nice to be in a position to shoot 9mils at leisure, but that's not where I am.

My XD45 5" is so much fun I'm considering reloading equipment!!

I think owning the xd made me condition myself to always draw the gun with my index finger pointing straight down and keeping it there. It takes some practice but it's pretty much is second nature now. It's also simpler because I don't have to think about cocking a hammer or whether the safety is on or off. I've shot a lot of IDPA matches that makes you think at a faster rate than you normally would. Just keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot.

Springfield had an XD at the 2008 SHOT Show that had a thumb safety on it...i think they introduced it for a contract...felt good when i tried it

how do you like the XD pistols from springfield armory?

My XD45 is occasionally my favorite pistol of my bunch.

It is awesome. I highly recommend.

I have an XD9 SC and I absolutely love it. Feels great, very accurate, very reliable.

The primary reason LE Agencies haven't picked up on it is that S&W and Glock are both far more aggressive in the pricing etc. for LE sales. The other reason is that even though in operation their indistinguishable from a Glock (Similar trigger pull, no manual safeties etc.), they're *technically* Single Action guns because the striker is fully cocked by the action of the slide. Since many departments exclude Single Action Only guns, the XD is excluded.

"Just keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot."

Damn skippy!

That's always been my rule, and will be dilligently observed with my XD45. I guess if they'd had one with a thumb safety where I bought mine I would have chosen it, but with trigger and grip safeties (and the index finger outside the guard!) I can see toting it armed and ready. It would be nice if it had a de-cocking meachanism, though it hardly matters and does have a 'cocked' indicator AND a 'chamber loaded' indicator. I'll probably just keep it unchambered unless I'm in some kind of situation. Good news is you really do have to have the grip fully depressed and both triggers pulled all the way back before it will discharge. That said, it's still not too hard to just pull the slide to chamber a round for action.

I have the XD45 and it's a fine gun and as easy to disassemble and clean as a Glock. They are quite similar actually.
