The bloggers and toobers are going nuts.
As hinted, Springfield Armory is now offering a copy of the Browning High Power. It even has some of the improvements people have been paying gunsmiths for; bigger sights, bigger safety, no magazine disconnect. They claim a no-bite burr hammer, for which I will have to wait on reports from people with meatier hands than me, as I am not subject to hammer bite by Browning or Sig.

Appears to be tastefully done. Made in USA, not Belgium?
Given Springfield's track record of off-shoring, Id be shocked if the majority of the parts didnt originate in Croatia or Turkey, with finishing and assembly done in Illinois.

That said, it looks like better overall quality than the Regent copies, so Im cautiously optimistic.

I dont know if Id bite on a full size (already got one)- but if they introduce a compact, similar to the Argentine FM, they will have my money.

A few years ago I sold my mint condition Mk III about a year before Browning ended manufacture. Certainly a choice I regret. Genuine Hi Powers are commanding titanic sums on the open market.

Then the Turks came in with their cheap Tisas clones which from most reports are decent enough. But the thought of owning a Turkish made budget version wasn’t so appealing.

This new Springfield seems like it should hold an excellent niche of mid priced and made in the USA with customer service support by an established name. This will be a hot seller for sure. I only wish 9mm wasn’t so overpriced right now.

Let's not hold our breath that this pistol is really made in the US, shall we? ;)
There’s no way. They might get away with “assembled” or something. But guaranteed the guns will be one of the Turkish hi powers. It’s the only thing that makes sense. I’m all for it; get a US company behind it and get good customer service.

Question #1 - Why did FN stop manufacturing it? If the answer is low demand, what makes Springfield think they will have a different experience?

Question #2 - Does the hammer still bite the hand?

I'm in. I have a T Series which I enjoy shooting, and this one has two of the changes I've wanted to see, better sights and a more usable safety. I also like that it, as well as 1911's have class, for lack of a better word that my polymer guns don't have.

SA catalog cut says " Made in the USA from a forged steel slide and frame." They never got cute about sourcing back when they were getting parts from Imbel in Brazil, but are they now?

Is the Browning Highpower a single action pistol? Does it have a firing pin block?

SAO for the past 93 years.
Late issues from FN, the Mk III, had firing pin obstructions.
Since SA has omitted the magazine disconnect, I doubt they put in a firing pin block. Have to await some production guns in the hands of paying customers to be sure.

Some good improvements to a respected sidearm. It’s on my short list.

Don't forget they sell the Mil Spec 1911 "Defender" for about $550 and they're made here. The SA-35 ships with one mag, cuts cost down a little too.

Hmmmmmmm if you asked me "What is SA going to make next?"... "... an updated Browning Hi-Power for $699" was nowhere near the top thousand guesses I would have made. It looks real good, and the price is nearly unbelievable. So one wonders.

This was a pleasant surprise to click on when The Armory Life popped up on my screen! I had to see what this new 9mm. SA 35 was all about. Definitely be interested in getting another Hi-Power, especially at that price!
