I have an opportunity to buy a Springfield Champion gun safe queen for $700 and am hesitant to do so. My Kimber Pro Carry fits my 4” 1911 needs but I’ve always wanted the Champion. Money’s not the issue but I feel it would continue its safe queen status in my collects well.

What would you do?

If you’re buying a Springfield Champion as a safe queen/investment, you’re wasting money. They are a relatively roughly finished mid end 1911 which have good function for the price point, but hardly an investment grade piece. A good piece to shoot and train with and while heavy, a good carry piece as well.

I would trade off a Kimber for that Springfield so fast it would make you dizzy...... but $700 is too high. Offer $600. If they say NO! walk away. I do agree with the above - the Springfield is a carry gun and not a safe queen.

My Kimber shoots like a dream. Very reliable with Wilson Mags, accurate and lightweight for carry. My Springfield GI model shoots good as well and is just as reliable. As for carry, I prefer the lighter weight of the Kimber and would probably do the same with the Champion in the mix.

But, a 4” Springfield has always been on my want list. I’ll offer $600 and see what they say.
