I bought a Springfield armory loaded 1911 yesterday, and when I got the gun home and took a closer look at it, the front sight appears to be bent and leans roughly 4°-5° to the left when lining up the sight picture. I also noticed the gun was very dirty out of the box, with a lot of carbon residue on the internals. The gun was supposedly "new in box" and I can't argue with the price I paid. This is my first Springfield, and was wondering if these were common occurrences? I'm not sure if the bent sight effects how it shoots, as all of the local gun shops were completely out of. 45 auto this weekend, and haven't gotten the chance to fire it yet.

they do not clean them after test firing

shoot the gun and see if it hits POA at 7-10 yds, if it does it was likely regulated ok. BTW mine leans a little also, don't even notice when shooting though

Thanks for the info. I was able to borrow some ammo from a buddy of mine, and put 2 mags through it. I was firing from about 15 yards, squeezing the trigger everytime I got my sight picture, so firing about one round per second, between both mags the grouping was slightly smaller than a grapefruit and it held POA really well. I know if I were to do some actual accuracy testing this will probably be the most accurate handgun I own. But so far the leaning sight doesn't effect accuracy.

You can always just send it in for warrenty work...Springfield has great customer service and will fix the sight on their dime. Might wanna think about some upgrades from the custom shop while its there...if you go that route.
