A while back (more than a year) I bought an M6 secondhand. First thing I did was wrap the barrels, replace the hinge pin with a bolt and wingnut, and take the trigger guard off.

A few months ago, I finally got tired of having no sight spring (the rear sight would flop back and forth and I had to hold it for certain shots) and the fact that empties wouldn't always extract (the extractor was out of spec)

I tried to purchase parts from Springfield, but they don't sell parts, so I sent it in for service. Less than two weeks later, here it is all fixed - ZERO BALANCE DUE!

Turns out that the lifetime warantee is for the life of the gun, not the original owner. Sweet.

That’s good to know. I have one and was a bit concerned about if I ever need parts.

It makes a great truck gun, and lots of fun for squirrels.

Holy crap, I thought I was the only one who took the trigger guard off, so that it would fold completely over. I like the braided grip; think I'll have to do that. Mine is the stainless .410/.22lr - what's your chambered in?

What is the accuracy like in those little scout rifles. I have had thoughts of picking on up. Been using a savage 24f in .223/20ga. for the same purpose it is just getting beat up in the truck. What is the squeeze trigger like to fire, would think it might require a learning curve.

My M6 is also .22lr/.410. Great gun.

Accuracy is shockingly good - and the squeeze trigger is a snap to learn.

The only problem with them is that they now cost upwards of 500 dollars in my area, because they aren't being produced anymore.

Would love to have one. But for 500 ill pass.

I also removed the trigger guard! I have an M6 & a savge 24 C. The 24 is also a great little gun, but not really a "survival gun" its more of a daily hunting or farm gun. Never the less, I just have a weakness for those little 22/.410 over unders.

I had one in 22hornet that I bought new for $165, and used on a couple sea kayak trips. I sold it a couple months ago for $450...I figured I might as well, since Springfield Armory could start importing them anytime again, and the high prices would disappear. Besides, I just didn't use it much anymore.

I like the look of the black one better than mine.

I know it's stupid, but I wish I could fit a scope to it, for accuracy testing.

Kinda wishin now I'd have also bought a .22 hornet / .410 one to go along with, back when, since they're so valuable now. Course, mine's probably not worth as much with the trigger guard removed - I really buggered up that pin in getting it off - IIRC, it wouldn't just punch straight out. But the idea is, backpack gun - it needs to fold to fit in the backpack. Love the winter trigger - I envision shooting snowhares with mittens on the size of a blender in a survival scenario!

I've shot some super colibris around the house with this gun, but I'm not sure I've ever even fired a .22lr round out it!

I agree and disagree with you on that. It has been a great around the farm gun for me. Since the one I have is a .223 and 20ga. It could be used as a multipurpose utility rifle. I might cover up the stock mine is birch with a blonde finish. The .223 will take a deer although illegal in KS. The 20 ga could serve for birds, small game and last resort defensive round. Seems to have the accuracy needed for medium range shots. It can also be broken down with a multi-tool and placed in pack if needed to be concealed.

I still have a GI issue M-6 .410/.22 Hornet, minus the barrels, in my junk collection.

They used to sell de-milled ones as scrap years ago.

I bought one for about $5 bucks and re-welded and re-machined the cut receiver, planning to make new legal 18" barrels for it someday.

So far, I still haven't got a round-tuit!

I have a SS .22 Hornet and a Parked .22 hornet. The Parked one has a factory scope mount and an Trigicon reflex on it. Both have removed trigger guards and slightly honed sears.
