Hi, I attended my first gun show. From talking with people and holding a few guns many were people leaning me towards the Springfield XDs. I am thinking of either getting Springfield or investing in 1911 piece. I have to say the 1911 feels real good and natural in the hand. Something about the skinny gun makes it real easy to aim and hold. The Springfields are bit thicker, but I think I can get use to it.

I was told that Glocks are probably not as good as Springfield, as they have problems with exploding and rattling. I was told glock bullet doesn't fit all the way in chamber and will cause reloaded ammo sometimes to become overly volatile. Anyway, from talking to a few folks I think that I will avoid Glocks. I know now I will hear people who swear by them tell me I am so wrong oh well, being new to all handguns I really cannot say anything with any great authority.

Anway, I like to hear what people think of Springfield XD's. I was considering 1911's but they do seem a bit bulkier. I am looking for an all around good hand gun, both for being in forest against animals (black bears/cougars) or roughneck forest criminals, as well as for packing in city.

SOme people say, oh Iam new, I should just get a .22 revolver But I want a nice bug hand gun now so I can have a good piece for protection right away as well as get some practice with the bigger gun. I was also planning on buying a .22 so I can do some target practice and increase skills.

So, my budget is to get 3 handguns. One big daddy that is still concealable, one small guy to hide on my body in case the big one is taken from me or jams. The third will be for plinking.

I am leaning towards Springfield XD 45 and another small 357 I can conceal. I may go the 1911 route. Both feel good in the hand, 1911 feels the best.

Of course, I still need to take course and practice, but the gun place near me doesn't have SPringfield guns for shooting, so I am stuck with Glock , S&W and revolver guns they have.

Well, if anyone can give me their thoughts on getting Springfield XD 45ACP as my all around piece I like to know what they think from what I said. Is 1911 more desirable for most? Dang it, I really loved how it felt in my hand. Perhaps its just a bit old fashioned looking and not too cheap; yet I know it doesn't affects its manuverabilty.

Smaller piece .357 Springield? Any other suggestions?

I am pretty much set on finding the cheapest ..22 Ruger I can find for my major plinking.

If you can conceal it with what you normally wear, a S&W K frame 357 is reliable, not very heavy... and a good plinking gun when you load it with 38 special powered handloads..
