Well I ended up buying the XD .45acp yesterday and I have to tell you so far I am happy with the fit and finish of this gun. And kind of nice the little extra goodies it came with Holster, mag holder, loader. Now we will see how it shoots this weekend. Hopefully as good as my Glocks :D which I am sure it will. Well just thought I would share.

Is there an exploded drawing in the manual? Could you check it and see how many parts the XD has?

Me too. Picked it up for $550 OTD. Took it to the range and put it through the paces. Nice shooting, very comfortable. I tend to prefer 1911's, but I can shot this one just as well. My only complaint is I'd like to be able to reduce the trigger take-up length. I think Springfield's Custom shop will do a "Custom Carry" detail that reduces the trigger pull to 4.5-5.5 lbs and shortens the take-up. I thought the trigger was nice and crisp though, not sure I can justify spending another $215 on the custom work. Enjoyed it soo much I'm thinking of getting a 9mm...:)

I bought one too . . .after much handling in the gunshop :) (I pick it up on Monday)

My only complaint is that the free holster is a right handed one. :) I guess I'll have to find a lefty holster for it somewhere.

    Have a good one,
    Dave

Don Hume 721 OT for the XD-40 fits my Bro-in-law's XD-45 just fine. He just let it sit in the holster for a day or two and it works great. I have a lefty 721 OT for my XD-40.

I looked at one of those and am very interested in getting one. Only one thing i have not figured out. It is with the loader. It appears to a groves that will match up with the light rails on the gun. It includes a locking cross bolt. I can not figure why one would want to put the loader on the front of the gun. When installed it keeps your support finger from going in front of the trigger guard. The manual does not explain what the rails are for on the loader. Has anyone figured it out differently?

The loader isnt meant to go on the front of the gun.
The holster and mag pouch have accessory rails on them. I'm pretty sure that's where it's supposed to be mounted.

    EDIT:

    The manual says:

"The magazine loader is designed to be worn in conjunction with the XD Dual Magazine Pouch or with the XD Holster while wearing a belt. Do not attempt to mount it anywhere else"

Had mine for about two weeks and have put about 600 rounds through it with no problems at all. Accuracy for me is more than acceptable. Really like it and glad I bought it,

I just got mine this week and took it out for a test run. I have to say it's going to take some customizing before I can get used to this thing. I ran 150 rounds through it without malfunction. Rear sight appears to be skewed a millimeter or two to the left and it hits accordingly. Significantly off center hits, a bit low too. No worries though, they'll be changed out for tritium asap.

I never shot a 45 auto this lightweight before. Heavy recoil isn't a problem for me... Until now. This thing required me to reposition my grip after every shot. That will be resolved with a rubber sleeve. Hard plastic is a bit slippery, eh? Even though I don't normally shoot using the offhand on the front of the triggerguard I did try that in a push/pull grip as an attempt to avoid repositioning my grip and the gun still jumped free every shot, so I gave up on that. On fast fire I was gripping the gun so tight to prevent my grip from shifting (it can be done) that I accidentally released the magazine. First time I ever did that! I was amazed considering how small and hard that thing is to depress on this gun.

So new sights, rubber grips, and I gots me a keeper.

Both my sons were along. They liked it too. The oldest was leaning back like how you see girls shoot. Don't know what was up with that, guess he's been overworked lately and isn't getting in enough range time  He's more into 9s, could have been fear. The youngest kid (18 but he outweighs me now) kicked butt with this pistol though I think his finger got tired halfway through the first magazine. He paused, looked over his shoulder at me, and asked "just how many shots does this thing hold?". I told him "More, lots more... Shoot 'em up". His eyes got big and I saw him beam the biggest grin of his life :D

Try a Brooks Tactical Agrip for your XD - far betther than a rubber sleeve, IMHO.

Got to handle one recently at a shop. I liked the balance and it's priced right.

As many of you know, I was one of the first persons here at the High
Road to acquire one of the new Springfield XD-45 ACP's. I continue to
be impressed with this very fine weapon. As a matter of fact, I just
recently took the time to clean her up really good with Blue Wonder
Gun Cleaner applied to the slide, then I armor coated it using Blue
Wonder Armadillo; cuz I expect to have too shoot it in the rainey
conditions that we expect here in the southeast U.S. of A.

BTW, if anyone if use to shooting Glock's I'm really surprised that
they find the grip angle of the XD hard too manage. Looks too me
like it would be much more natural?

Dan, I would think the XD would have more muzzle flip compared to the Glock 21. It looks to have a much higher bore axis.

    Greeting's Joe D My Friend-

You know, I guess I'm not bothered by the Springer's high bore axis
cuz I'm use to shooting my West German SIG-SAUER .45 caliber
    P220A~!:D

I got to shoot it today. I was only able to shoot 100 rounds Winchester White box. And I was surprised on how accurate that thing is. The muzzle flip was really not that much different than my G21 atleast I did not notice much. Not one jam ran flawlesly. I am a happy camper glad I bought it. I brought with me a first timer (Gun SHooter) and he was also impressed he has never shot a handgun before So I started him off with the.45 acp:D and he loved it he shot very well. He commented on the sights he liked them very much. And he also said the muzzle flip was not bad at all he could handle it fine. He looked over next to us and someone was there shooting a Kimber and said look at that thing kick. I am beginning to notice that more now that I shoot my Glocks and now my SPringfield XD more now. That my 1911 kicks more. Guess I must like Polymer now... :D

Came to work this morning and discovered that my company celebrates presidents day . . . so I made a trip to my gun shop and picked up my XD. (waiting period over).

Now I've always lusted after a glock 27, but have never been able to convince myself to buy one and this is my first "polymer" pistol. I'm a 1911 bigot. I had only shot one XD prior to this and it was an XD-9. It's amazing to me how light these things are with no ammo in them. I was a little leary as to whether this was going going to be too big (gripwise) or whether it would fit. Seemed to fit ok in the store . . .

I brought it home and decided to actually read the owners manual and then field strip it and clean it. (It's 34 degree's outside right now with a 10-15mph wind) I ran a couple of patches with Hoppes on them down the bore and it had definately been test fired at the factory. Not really dirty, but it took 2-3 patches to get it clean.

Looking down the bore I was surprised at how shiny (mirror) the bore was and how sharp the rifling looked. The slide even seemed to be very nicely milled with no extraneous milling marks, etc. The only negative I could find was that the bluing was a little bit worn off on the backside of the recoil spring/guide assembly where it rests against the base of the barrel. I would expect this though after shooting it the first time so I can't say it was much of a surprise.

Well after putting some CLP on it and "test loading" the magazines I couldn't take it so I grabbed some targets, my hearing protection and 100 rounds of the 200 LSWC's that I shoot in my 1911's and headed out for the range.

After putting a magazine in the pistol I hit my first, and only real complaint. I'm a lefty, and the slide release on this pistol is farther "back" than it is on my 1911's. It's not as easy to reach up with my trigger finger and drop the slide. I know I'm not supposed to do it this way, but it's an old habit. I figure it's a minor nit as pulling the slide back and letting it go works fine. I also was able to teach my trigger finger to reach up and drop the slide, but it did require me to shift my grip.

I was a bit curious as to how the sites would be regulated vs my eyes, but the first five shots were in the 8-10 ring on the NRA 25 yard slow fire bullseye target so I figured what the heck!! The grip size is definately not an issue with this pistol. Very comfortable to shoot.

So, after putting the first 100 rounds through it I have to say that this is the MOST BORING PISTOL I have ever shot!! It goes bang everytime you pull the trigger, it shoots 5 shot groups (freehand at 25 yards) into 2 1/2-3 inches easily. I had 2-3 targets where my first 3 shots were all touching in I'd say a 3/4 inch group and then two flyers that opened it up to 2 - 2 1/2 inches. Now I'm not a great shot, so a pistol that shoots like this for me on a 34 degree day when my hands are a bit cold is amazing. When I started working on the 5 inch steel circles I felt like Rob Leatham . . . .bang (ding) bang (ding) bang (ding) bang (ding) bang (ding) bang (ding) bang (ding) . . . .wait a minute . .I've got more than seven rounds!!! bang (ding) bang (CRAP!) bang (ding) . . .well you get the picture. :) It wasn't even exciting trying to find the brass that didn't land on my tarp. Every single round was within 1 1/2-2 foot diameter circle.

I'm tickled pink. This gun is definately going to get some shooting time. Now I have to scare up the money to buy a holster and some mag holders . . .and find a couple more spare mags. :(

    Just thought I'd share.

    Have a good one,
    Dave

Congrat's too all you folks that have just acquired the Springer XD-45ACP~!:D

It truly is a very nice weapon, and with reasonable care should last a
lifetime. I just hope that you folks enjoy yours as much as I have mine.

Hey Dave from IL - what serial number range are they up to now?
