I got mine!

I have to start by saying that I'm a 1911 guy. I own three of them and wouldn't give any of them up. I have a Colt Gov't Model, a Kimber Custom CDP and a S&W SW1911Sc.

Anyway, after reading all the good things about the SA XD45, I went to the range Friday afternoon and rented one. Wow! I fell in love immediately! I couldn't believe how good this pistol felt in my hand and how accurate it was! After firing 100 rounds, I knew I had to have one and, wouldn't you know it? On the way home, I bought a black XD45 Service Model!

My s/n is US6151xx born on date 22 Feb 2006

(from the fired case data which, BTW, was recorded by H. Japunĉić, a noted Croatian brass retriever and envelope stuffer). :p

I'm loving this 4" service XD-45 more and more. Next stop, some Tru-Glo TFOs when I have a better-than-average sales month.

I guess you could call me a "reformed" 1911 guy too~!:D I use to would not
touch anything in .45 ACP but my beloved West German SIG-SAUER P220A.
This, after owning MANY Colt 1911's over the years~!:uhoh: Then, one
hot and humid sulty July day in 2004 I received a gift from a very dear
friend and fellow THR member; in the form of a LNIB Springfield WW-II
G.I. replica 1911A1. I immediately carried it too the police range
and shot well with it; keeping all shot's on a pie plate at 25 yards with
NO flyers. Later in the same year I started working in a very large family
owned sporting goods store here in my hometown; and one of the first
handguns I purchased was its stainless steel counterpart.

Since then, I have added: a) a NIB Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II .45 ACP,
b) a NIB Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special .45 ACP, and c) a Springfield
Mil-Spec 1911 .45 ACP with the parkerized finish. Oh! yes, the SIG P220A
is still here; but has been relegated strictly as a home D' handgun, after
serving me faithfully as my everyday carry piece 'til I retired. You folks
think my trend is shifting? I think it is~!:D

Ala Dan~~~

We need to hook up and shoot someday soon! Two XDs between us and a buncha other stuff.

PM me with any news about our friends situation.

I am soooo glad that the XD-45 was not the first handgun I ever purchased, because if it had been it would have been the last handgun I ever purchased. It is that good. Being the 1911 guy that I am I never thought I would buy a plastic pistol that could rival my 1911's.....but my XD has done just that.

Heres mine with the porch light hanging off the front:

Accuracy....no problem:

Well, I guess I didn't notice they were black nickel cases. Then you are absolutely correct!

Emmersome great loads, them TAPs! Guess that's why they are so often backordered.

Just thought I'd chime in, too. I bought my XD45 on Saturday. Being California, I don't get to have it for a week or two.

It was fun to come home from the gun shop on Saturday to find the latest SWAT magazine in my mailbox... with a torture test of the XD45!

I went to my local range and shot with their rental XD45. It felt as good, or better, shooting than just handling in the store.

I was surprised that it feels nothing like a Glock, to me. And, as others have said here, it seems to have less kick than my Kimber, even though it feels very light.

Yesterday my dad and I went to the gun store to pick up my Uberti Millenium (Boy do I like this gun!) and while we where there my dad spotted the XD. Next thing I knew, we were both carrying our boxes out the door!:D The only downside to this gun that I can see is that my mom can't know about it, and boy was it a bother to sneak into the house!

A friend bought his XD45 last week and he let me handle it on Sunday. I went to the local store on Monday and handled one of theirs for a few minutes and decided I needed one. My friend and I went to the range today with my son and we were all impressed. I fired a mixed bag of ammo sorted by headstamp and it handled everything w/o a hitch. Cor-Bon, Federal, WWB 230, WWB 185, UMC 230, Wolf 230. I already had a LaserLyte laser on a Quick Detach mount for a Glock, and it fit right on and was within a couple of inches without any adjustment. The switch on the laser malf'ed toward the end of the session, but WD-40 and a wipedown restored it. It was probably the gunk from the Wolf ammo. I will try Wolf again and see if it malf's again.

This will probably become my daily carry, and I will be watching for the arrival of the 3" model. I like 45's and this is a good one.

These just became available for sale this week in MD because of the dang approved pistol list we have. I'll let you know how my 4" works out when I'm able to pick it up in 7 days :)

yhtomit, that is a real shame. It would make a natural backup for the service model or primary carry when the service model is a little too much for the occaision or the dress.

Perhaps if enough of us email them....

My favorite hand gun right now is my XD 45ACP Tactical. I am going to buy another one & add a light & laser to keep around for HD.

Kinda funny actually...

The california 10 day wait + My schedule = 25 day wait!!! :scrutiny:

I'll let you know on monday if I like the XD45 or not.

XD45

Gents: Does the XD45 have a fully supported chamber? Does the barrel have polygonal rifling? What does the owners manual have to say about lead reloads? Thanks.

Seven; The XD does have a fully supported chamber and it has regular rifling. I cant recall if the manual says anything about lead bullets or not but Ive put a lot of lead thru mine. It just doesnt seem to like semi wadcutters.

I did a little Ransom Rest testing on my XD45 .
I tested a few different brands of 230gr ball ammo plus a handload of 230 gr ball with 4.5 gr Titegroup

Winchester bulk pack 230gr(WWB); Remington UMC 230gr and the handloads all grouped less than 3" at 25 yards. Not much less than 3" but all were very consistent groupings.

CCI brass 230gr for some reason was grouping around 5" at the same distance (25yrds)
At first I thought I might of had something going wrong with my Ransom Rest but I could load up a mag full of another brand and the group would be small again. Run some CCI through it and groups would be large. ??

I also tried some Federal Personal defense 165 gr loads and it grouped less that 3" as well

Im looking forward to trying some other size bullets and loads. Ive got some 185 Zero JHP that im wanting to try as well as some lead bullets.
From what I seen it looks like 2.5 to 3 inch groups is going to be the norm in my gun.

Here is a pic of some individual groups. The black circle is a 10 ring from a 25 yrd NRA target. Its 3.36" diameter and there for reference.

The targets are starting from the top left and going clockwise.

1) Handload of 230gr ball 4.5gr Titegroup
2) Federal Personal Defense 165gr HP
3) Remington UMC 230gr ball
4) Winchester bulk pack (WWB) 230gr ball
5) CCI Blaser brass case 230gr ball

This is probably around 150 to 200 rounds from the ransom rest at 25 yrds. 6 different loads. 4 factory loads and 2 handloads. 165gr to 230 gr. Lead and jacketed. I was sorting thru the pics and I think this one sums it up pretty well. This is the first target I put up and after all the testing this was the result.

45+ -- I hope Springfield changes their plans ;)

I agree with you that a smaller XD-45 would be a good gun, and hope they do get enough inquiries by phone or email to at least consider it. I don't know what the numbers are for the sales of their smallest 9mm XD, but I've had salesfolk describe them as "flying out the door."

On the other hand, there are a lot of very attractive small .45s these days, and since I have both 9mm and .45 pistols (and therefore don't feel conflicted too badly about buying a carry-appropriate one in either caliber), there are bucketloads of them in 9mm.

This afternoon, I shot my SA XD45ACP Service Model for the first time.

Prior to shooting it, I had planned on sending it for a trigger job and TruGlo TFO sights, after checking it for reliability out of the box.

After shooting it, I will not be sending it anywhere! A couple hundred trigger pulls and a couple hundred bangs! No FTF's, no FTE's. The trigger is excellent, as it is, and the stock sights are better than I thought that they would be. This pistol needs absolutely nothing. It's perfect just the way it is.

I am extremely happy with my choice!
