Springfield XDs Recall

I just got a letter from Springfield. How did they find out that I own a 9 and a 45? I thought records were kept safe. I never registered them with Springfield. Heck, i've only shot the 9 maybe 20 times and havent fired the 45 yet.

They got in touch with all their distributors and retail outlets to obtain a list of who bought an XDs or who they did transfers for on that particular model. At least that's what my dealer told me and it makes sense that Springfield would do that.

I called Springfield today and was told that they contacted all of their distibutors and ask for a list of people that bought them. Before I called them, I called one local dealer and was told they were never contacted. Hmmm. Who knows

I don't think distributors would know who bought them.

Some dealers might let them know who did, some might not.
I wonder how most dealers file their internal paperwork? Can they even easily look it up by gun type? If records are paper only I would guess it is filed by name/date. Do they keep a log sheet? I don't know, maybe a dealer can tell us.

I got my .45 back and have only shot it briefly to verify function.
Compared to the one I haven't sent in yet the trigger pull is different/heavier.
I will send the second one in at some point. Right now their 10+ week turnaround is unacceptable, so it just sits in the safe.

I got mine back a week ago I haven't had time to test it out my trigger pull gauge says the trigger only went up half a pound and it breaks clean so I am not worried

Had mine at the range several days ago. The trigger is now good after dry firing and a couple hundred live rounds through the tube. Let a couple of buddies shoot it and they had no complaints.

I didn't care for the two month absence while it was being modified at SA, but in all honesty, it was the right thing for them to do and it appears that they're processing thousands of these pistols, so the delay is understandable. We should all be glad that the safety issue is being addressed before any tragic accidents.

I finally got to take mine out and shoot it post recall. It gobbled up 100 rounds without any problem whatsoever. The new Big Dots were fantastic as well, making it easy to ring the steel plate from as far back as 30 feet. I brought along my G29SF as well. The XDs has more kick than the G29SF, probably because it's lighter, or maybe because the 10mm I was shooting was Blazer aluminum. One observation- the XDs threw the brass about 20' or more almost straight out at my 3-o-clock, so they were all over. The G29 dropped the aluminum cases about 10' away in a small circle at my 5.

Sent mine in late September and received it yesterday.

I was stressing too since it was scheduled to arrive today and I'm at work all day. I was delaying paying the $5 to schedule a delivery date/time, but it was looking like that was my only option to make sure i was there.

so there i was yesterday and my dog started barking while i was putting some cabinets together in my garage with the doors closed. i walk inside (dog still going nuts) and there is the FEDEX guy at my front door with cardboard box in hand. He apologizes for being a day early.

awesome. digging the magazine extension....now i have two 7 rounders and two 5 rounders. trigger feels just fine but i'm not nearly good enough to detect an extra pound or two of trigger weight.

will be at least a week until i can send some lead downrange.

^^^ When I got mine back I couldn't say the trigger was heavier either- bad memory I suppose. I was dry-firing with snap-caps and I noticed the front sight would twitch just a tiny bit to the right at trigger break. I wasn't happy about that but I'd read somewhere that it should smooth out after a few dozen trigger pulls. I drove my wife crazy rapidly clicking the trigger and resetting the trigger (slide back a quarter inch or so) and it worked. Before long the twitch was gone and the trigger smoothed out.

Quick report on my XDs 45 - can't remember when I sent it in, but got it back a couple weeks ago, and have had two range trips since.

Springfield was nice enough to send a 7-round magazine with it. (thanks!)

With American Eagle 230gr ball, shooting from an improvised rest (my range bag) I was able to get good accuracy.

Offhand, however, it seems to be more lively - I'm having to regrip from shot to shot, which I don't remember doing before. (5-round mags) and while its possible to get rounds in the x-ring, it seems to be more difficult than before.

Perhaps I just need to re-learn how to shoot it, put some more rounds through it to smooth it out. Since I sent it in, I've been shooting a lot of revolvers (which are a completely different shooting experience), and a new Glock 21, which, with a heavier slide and bigger grip/frame, can't help but be a sweet shooter compared to the diminutive XDs.

Got mine back yesterday morning. Im happy to finally get it after 3 and a half months away. The trigger almost seems to have a slightly shorter pull than I remember, and it is very smooth. However it is considerably heavier than when I sent it in. I don't have a scale but is very noticeable and if I had to guess mine was at the high end of the 5.5-7.7 lb range before and much more now. If I didn't mind losing it for several more months it would definitely be going back, but based on the reviews I heard while I was waiting I have a spring kit on the way that should be here today. Hopefully it will get it back to a reasonable pull. The fact that it is a carry gun doesn't make it ok to me.

The extended magazine is nice, but makes the gun too tall for carrying but should work fine for the range. The only comment I have is it seems to not latch in quite right, as it takes more force to lock into the gun and release than the two original 5 rounders.

Cant say I was pleased at all with the whole recall but I'm glad to have it back and hopefully it will work out.

after i got mine back went straight to the range put about 150 rounds through it
all was good went back in a few days on the 11th round the trigger safety broke
sent it right back turnaround was fast 8 days. good luck

Got mine back today, looks and feels good, maybe better than before, will shoot it by the weekend.

Can you guys try your best to describe how much creep your triggers have post-recall? I'm not talking about the initial take-up, but the amount of travel from the point where heavier resistance is first encountered to where it breaks. Mine has a considerable amount, somewhere in the range of 1/16" to 1/8", and I just want to know if this is consistent or not. Thanks.

Regardless of the different-trigger-feel issue, are people still finding their post-recall XDS's to be reliable? I saw one comment on one thread about light strikes, and I wanted to make sure that this wasn't a widespread problem with the post-recall XDS.

FWIW, I disregard any reference to someone experiencing light strikes with their returned, "upgraded" XDs unless they specifically state that they properly cleaned & lubed the piece after receiving it and before firing it ... and this Clean & Lube included cleaning out the firing pin channel.

Springfield is, apparently, re-gooping these pistols prior to returning them.

Quality control on factory ammo and especially reloading primers now days is pretty sad.
It's not unusual that I have several light primer strikes a month with different guns.
Yesterday I had two with a 9mm Ruger Police Security Six.
One primer was so hard it took 5 tries before the primer fired.


My two XDS 45 pistols are working fine since the recoil.

clean the firing pin channel and lube the slide. good ammo and you should be good to go with your XDs. took me a while to learn that lesson.

That's great to know. I keep on coming back to the XDS in my search for a conceal-carry-friendly companion to my 1911 (has to be thin, reliable, affordable, durable, same grip angle, and 9mm) and I keep coming back to the XDS.

"for what it is" it is an excellent gun. And prior to the recall I carried it every day with complete confidence, which I hope resumes when I run it through it's paces prior to carrying it again. The gun was accurate and concealable. More than that in a carry gun that fires a 45 caliber round I can't ask for.

Yeah, I'm really torn if I get an XDS between the 9mm (cheap ammo, more capacity, less recoil) and the 45 (shares ammo with my 1911).

I have two of the XDs 45's. One I sent in back in early September, was gone 10 weeks. I had obtained return authorizations for both at the time, but held one back as I wanted to see what they did to the first one before I sent the other.
Ready to send in the second one I emailed them asking about reactivating my RMA at the address they invite questions on.....a month ago...no reply.
Guess I'll have to call them....here is the text from their weekly update-
