I am starting to gather info for a purchase of a 9mm or possibly a 40cal. Besides personal preferences, and just sticking to features or quality, can you go wrong with an XD? I am not as familiar with the XD line.

There are a ton of threads about the XD, do a search for XD and read them. I have one and think they are a very fine handgun. I would buy it again.

I had an XD-40 service model and loved it, sold it to finance a USPSA limited gun for my son. It was dead on accurate and handled really well. It was a bit clunky for CCW, but with a good holster (a Tucker can't be beat) that can be overcome for at least occasional ccw. Its a phenominal all around firearm. I am currently looking for an XD-40 Tac. to shoot in production class USPSA.

Never had a problem with mine and it feels good in the hand. Pretty accurate and feeds just about everything.

we have an Xd 40c that my wife shoots. We both love the gun and the 40cal round will do the job.

I have the sub compact, service and tactical in 40. I like them! The only problem I had with any of them was with the tactical. It did not like the fp bullet I was reloading, even though they worked fine in the other two. I switched to a rnfp, and no more problems. I've never shot one in 9mm, but the 40s are not hard to handle, and are quite accurate. For me, they point better than the Glocks.

i have a Tactical in 40 - love it. Glocks are great too - just i like the feel factor on an XD.

if you have the chance to try them before a purchase - go to the range and have some fun.

I Own the XD40 Sub-C

I have around 900 rounds through it with one failure to seat fully in the chamber at about round 80. It is accurate, however being .40 and a Sub-Comp, I have to really concentrate on getting my shots where I want them. Might not be a problem for you. This firearm is a breeze to field strip, and points naturally for me. I would recommend this firearm to anyone.

Mine feels great in the hand and shoots very well. I am an amateur shooter and can shoot some very small groups with my XD-40 service model. It just feels natural.

I helped a neighbor who is a novice with pistols decide on an XD-9 Service. In the course of breaking his in I became so impressed I got one of my own. Now I have 700 rounds thru mine without a failure, and he has about 500 thru his with only one FTF that we both attributed to limp wristing.

Very fine handgun. The wife now wants it for her CCW. I was very surprised at the accuracy. Shoots like my Kimber!

Sorry to have to go against the grain, but just to offer an alternative viewpoint, I have an XD-40 4" and I hate it. To be fair, I'm a total newbie, and this is only the fourth handgun I've fired.

I've put about 500 rounds of Mag-Tech FMJ through it. There were several fail-to-feeds and failures to return to battery in the first 200 or so rounds. In my most recent range trip, I only had two failures to return to battery, but it started failing to lock the slide back after the last round in a mag. Yes, it has been cleaned.

My particular gun has a factory defect in that the trigger pivot pin is not retained and walks out the side of the gun. It needs to be pushed back in after every mag. I'm sure the factory will fix this once it is returned under the lifetime warranty.

That brings up another point in that Springfield has instituted a policy of not selling parts to anyone, so in effect no one but the factory can service the weapon. Nice - not. I don't want to send it in for service until I can afford another gun, as I don't want to be without protection for the several weeks it takes to get it fixed. Or I might just say "screw it" and trade it in and take the loss.

It doesn't shoot where it's pointed for me. I've tried really hard, but it consistently shoots low and to the left from point of aim. I didn't have that problem with the CZ-40P that I shot during my CWP class (200 rounds). Yesterday I ran 250 rounds through the XD, and also rented a Kimber 1911 5" (not sure exactly which model) and ran 150 rounds through that. Side by side, my groups with the Kimber were 1/3 the size of my XD groups, right from the first magazine through the Kimber, and I'd never shot a 1911 before. That convinced me that, newbie or no, it's not just me, it's either the XD or the combination of me and the XD.

The finish on the slide is already showing significant wear, and it's not like I've been practicing drawing it.

The point of this is to overly bash XDs. They have so many happy owners that clearly it must be pretty good, at the least. But count at least one unhappy owner who thinks it's a dog.

Sounds like yours does have a problem that needs to be fixed. Sorry to hear that.

Often this happens because of thumb placement over the slide stop. May not be the case with you but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Gannet. Get that back to the factory ASAP. I wouldn't put up with that for 5 minutes. I hate to see you take the loss on selling it, plus the new owner is left with a piece of sh*t. Can you borrow a gun in the mean time? Good luck.

Have you tried any other brand of ammo for it? Some guns just do not like a particular type of ammo but with another brand will run fine. As to the trigger pin, get it back to the factory, and mention the dissatisfaction with the finish.

No Problems

I fired a few hundered rounds of FACTORY AMMO through mine without a problem. I have also fed my 40cal my reloads using 155gr lswc, 165 lswc and 165 jswc without a hitch, wait I did have one problem but that was my stupid mistake. I like the XD and my son likes the XD, now its your choice.

I have had no problems with mine. My bitone XD-9 Service has digested many different brands and types of rounds in the 250 rounds I have fed it. I have complete confidence in it. It is my bedside pistol right now.



XD's are making a good showing in IDPA competitions.
