Just a quick question. I was watching a re-run of CSI, and a suspect was shooting a black revolver with a squared barrel. Who makes these types of revolvers?

Are they standard production or custom jobs?

There's a few flat sided barrels from the S&W Performance Center. That my be what you saw. Or there's also many aftermarket flat sided barrels with full length flat top ribs that are fitted to old K frame frames to tailor the gun for PPC competition shooting. Some of those look decidedly square.

Square barrels are generally referred to as "Slab Sided" and are typically match grade target barrels for silhouette or bowling pin shooting.

Don't know if S&W or any major manufacturer ever did a slab sided gun, most of the time they're custom shop jobs.

Does sound like the Night Guard line from S&W.

Never saw a PPC revolver built on a Dan Wesson. WIth the short trigger pull that must have been a good shooter. My PPC revolver was built on a M67 by Davis, slab barrel, heavy underlug, adjustable sight front and rear, winged rib, the whole shooting match.
