FINALLY..... A handgun & squirrel picture ! Thanks, Gunny and congrats. I really like that Ruger, too. I'm headed for the woods this afternoon to the trail cams and maybe see a squirrel within Single Six range.
Careful out there, don't know where they'll pop up and become aggressive...

Does this qualify as gun and squirrel pic?

Those sure qualify as gun & squirrel stuff. Had to postpone my walk in the woods until tomorrow but the Single Six will come along as usual. Especially now that it may be needed for defense in case of a squirrel charge or something, LOL.

Best squirrel gun out there is the Volquartsen Black Mamba expensive but worth every penny and you can win matches when not hunting. Put a 3moa dot sight on top for out to 35yd shots and a crimson trace rail laser below for the 10 to 25ft shots.

wonder what a squirrel would think of a laser light lol… yees very expensive..though i did handle one last week..heaven in my ✋

I have 2 squirrel rigs.
A Buckmark target 5.5 w a swapped in new Contour model bbl ( from MWG). Removed the sights and put a reflex w 2 moa dot on it.

Grips are target walnut, non wrap around. Still a little too big for my liking.

Been shooting golf balls w it. Out to 50 yards. Hit em or scare em good. Its working better for me, only had it out 3 times to club, but am getting used to it.

Banged up my wrist so might keep me from piney slaying.

Other rig is iron sight. 6" Kart slide on a Colt 1911 frame. Shot wm w it about 40 yrs ago LOL.

My eyes suck now so dunno how its work.

I’m going to throw my support behind a Single Six. 22lr or 22mag depending upon your needs. Plenty options for mounting optics whether it be a factory hunter model or aftermarket bases that replace the irons. I have good eyesight and have dropped a few bushy tails with my 9” but I was equally comfortable with the shorter barrel gun I sold to get the 9”. I would say 6ish is optimal for most folks but any direction from there has trade offs in weight, velocity, and stability.

The second place for me would be a 22/45 lite and that is in line as one of my next handgun purchases.

As a teenager I had a boatload of fun in the squirrel woods with a 10" iron-sighted Mk II. That was with younger eyes - and much more tolerance for hauling such a silly thing around - but there you go.

OKAY update, going tomorrow to get a beretta U22. It is the 6in. Has a hvy barrel and factory weaver rail. Its for the wife, but heck….if I am paying for it and I am going to pick it up, then its gonna be in my name, gotta try it out. I got a good deal on what I can tell is a mediocre pistol..Still a 22 hvy 6” with scope ability. Now for the bonus, bc the deal on berreta, I bought a Buckmark 7 1/4 brl. Hvy, with factory pic rail.

So please any input on my choices? And does anyone own the U22?

I looked at the Beretta U22 NEOS when I bought my S&W 22A. The grip angle on the NEOS was uncomfortable for me. But then again I have bad wrists and arthritis too.

https://huntingheart.com/beretta-u22-neos/#Best_Handgun_Accessories This is a review but there are others that also have different opinions…please if you have a Berreta U22. Would appreciate any input on the Buckmark Contour if your an owner, I have not handled either one, my concern is the Berreta will be a junk gun but wife has small hands and the Buckmark Contour will be too heavy. Remember the thread is about pistol hunting squirrel…

I had a 4" barreled Neos. It was a small fit for my hands, but it fit my wife's and daughters' hands just fine. One of those rubber grip sleeves will increase the grip circumference nicely, for those that need it.

The best part about the Neos is the included optic rail and easy to load magazines. I tried red dots and scopes, with red dots being the superior option for that gun. However, the trigger isn't that great on the Neos, unless you get a pre-recall Neos from over a decade ago. I had a pre-recall Neos that I did some trigger work to, then I sent it in for the recall (came back with a different "safer" striker) which brought the trigger back to not-so-great status.

In my case, the women in my family lost interest in shooting so I sold the Neos to get a Browning Buckmark Camper w/ 5.5" barrel. The Buckmark fits my hands better and has a better factory trigger. I did have to add an optic rail for a red dot, but it was worth it.

It should be noted that I never shot squirrel with either gun, but my Buckmark shoots small targets easier than my Neos could. Blame hand fit and the trigger for that.

My 622 got stolen many years ago, but what I most remember about it was that it weighed nothing. I'm guessing that scope more than doubles the all-up weight!
This one's a 2206, so it's all steel. I wanted one for years and years before finally getting this one last month. Still might add a 422 or 622 as a lightweight belt gun.

would love to see/learn more about fanny pack that accepts a ruger single six!
I see your fanny pack and raise you a military style Condor chest rig. My standard barrel single six saw many miles in it. My Taurus m44 saw a few miles in it while hiking in the smokies. Much easier to see and manipulate stuff in front of you at chest height than it is at waist height.

I am 5’10 ..squirrel hunting thinking 15-30 yard max.. mounting on 7.25” barrel buckmark contour.

3 scopes in my list looking for votes for the eer ease and for my shot as stated above.

I can go for more $$$ Just want to plop a good starter and what to look for in specs! Wondering for a 1.5” target of a squirrel head, if I may need a variable like 2-4 power or if 2 would be enough??
