Olympus:
Get a grip...

Sorry, I apologize for typing that, but I had too:D

Just wanted to report that I was able to go shooting today and simply cleaning the factory grease out and lubing the gun with CLP pretty much solved all of my problems. Out of 50 rounds I only had 2 FTEs compared to an almost 50% rate the first time I shot it.

Good to here another successful "fix" with a simple wipe and lube.
Of all the cheap ammo I've bought/shot UMC has the longest over all length.

Yeah, that's definitey good to hear that yours has gotten better.

Personal choice for me, but two malfunctions out of 50 wouldn't be good enough to earn it place on my hip for protection. I've got two many other guns that are up to and into the 1000s of rounds without a malfunction to pick from. When I get the gun back from Ruger, it's going to have to really prove itself for reliability. Because knowing my luck, if I ever were in a situation where I needed to use the gun, those 2 out of 50 malfunctions would be my first two shots.

I bought a new one and took it to the range recently with 4 different brands of ammo to wring it out a bit.

It worked flawlessly for me.

My wife kept getting stovepipe after stovepipe.

I looked more closely at her grip & form and noticed that she had a bend in her right wrist. I suggested that she straighten her wrist out and she did.

Bingo! No more malfunctions.

All in all I fired about 150 rounds through it with nary a hiccup, and after getting her grip right, she managed about 50 with no issue.

My $.02.

I love this gun.

:)

Thanks for the input. As I've said though, I'm confident that it's not my grip or technique.

Update.

I just received my SR9c back from Ruger today. They received it on 9-14 and returned it on 9-24, so 10 day turn around time is awesome!

The paper enclose with the notes state the following:

Extractor - Repaired
Striker Assembly - Replaced
Striker Cover - Replaced
Trigger Bar Reset - Replaced

They function-fired 50 rounds using my magazines without malfunction. So it looks like things might be all better. I'm just glad to see that it wasn't my technique! I will be taken out this weekend and shot probably another 200 or 300 rounds just to make sure.

I took the gun out this past weekend and ran about 300 rounds through it with both mags. Out of the 300, I only had 1 stovepipe. So I'm hoping that was just a fluke and it will smooth out more as I shoot it.

One thing that did concern me was that the gun would not cock about 2 to 3 times per magazine. It would eject without a problem and rechamber another round without a problem. But I would go to pull the trigger and it was like the trigger never reset from the previous shot. I would have to rerack the slide to get it cock again. It was really regular like I said, probably 2 to 3 times each magazine.

Any thoughts?

Olympus, man you have some luck.

I had a POS Cobra 45 that did that. I had to pull the slide about 1/8 of an inch to reset the trigger. I never did find out what did it. I purchased it for a boat gun (so that if it fell over the side it only cost $130.00). I traded it for a Hi Point for the same purpose.

I hope that you can get this new issue resolved. I would have been on the phone to Ruger already!

Good luck.

You're telling me. I'm not gonna get in a big hurry about sending it back to Ruger yet. I'm gonna give it another couple hundred rounds and see if it smooths out.

But you're right, sometimes I could pull the slide back to right before it ejects the shell and it would reset the trigger. But then other times that wouldn't work either and I'd have to rack it all the way back and pick up the round. I've just got some bad luck with this deal.

Gave it a quick look over when I got it back. Nothing caught my eye. And I'd hope that after a second trip from the factory, it wouldn't still have something wrong with it. That's why I'm going to give it a few hundred more rounds before I decide to send it back again.

Olympus there are some stickies at rugerforum.com that show how to detail strip a SR9 if you think a deep cleaning would help. I would probably send it back if it still wasn't right. One member over there had an early SR9c he had to send back a couple of times for them to get it right. He is loving it now though.

I'll take a look at the stickies and give it another cleaning, just in case. But I'm really feeling like it's something else. It wasn't doing this originally when it was having all the FTEs and FTFs. We solved that problem, but now we seem to have another one.

Maybe I'll head over to the Ruger forum and see what else I can find out.

Just got mine this weekend:

Loaded up both mags with Corbon DPX, after a full strip and cleaning, and removal of the Mag Disconnect Safety. It carries well and feels tremendously solid. If you're looking for a great buy on an accurate 9mm built like a tank, give one of these a check out at your gun shop. While I prefer large-caliber revolvers, being able to send 18 rounds of 9mm downrange as fast as I can pull the trigger is a good feeling.

Just wanted to give an update on my SR9c. Since my last post, I've probably put close to 750 rounds through it. No FTEs and no FTFs. I also have not had a single problem with the trigger not resetting either. It looks like the gun just needed a little longer "break in" period than most are seeing. I'm happy that things seem to be better now.

Happy this worked out for you. I am planning on buying one of these in January (have to pay for christmas first).

Also, may your next pistol purchase be easier than your previous ones.
