Hey Guys

Maybe this post goes here???

I was thinking of getting some of that SS109 62gr NATO ammunition.....it seems like I remember a few threads back on TFL that were some manufacturers that were having problems. My question is is there a brand or a lot that I should be wary of???

Thanks

There was a long thread on this a while back on AR15. The SS109 62 grain stuff is bad, several people reported inconsistent ignition and some kabooms.

However, their NATO 55gr. FMJ is fine.

Its a waste of money IMHO unless you really NEED to bust threw steel or shoot 400yds or more.

I reload the M855 round for my two Mini 14s and AR15. Accuracy past 400yds is superior to the M193 or any 55gr stuff. Ballistically the M855 is a better round. I would never buy the stuff, though. Its just too darn expensive. I see it going for over $220 for 1000rds. Its about $139 for 1000rds of SA.

What kind of gun are you shooting?

This only applied to the Olympic brand, correct?

I have heard good things about the Lake City stuff from Federal and the Winchester.

Guys

I'm not sure if it was only referring to the Greek stuff..

I shoot Winchester M855 and I like it. It's a very accurate hard hitting round. I was pleased to see it even shoots MOA out of my Sako, which has a 1:12 twist. I rate it AA++.

Stay away from the Olmypic Arms SS109. It wouldn't function in either one of my AR's nor would it work in my buddy's rifle. The case is out of spec and it tends to drag over the other rounds in the magazine. The ammo also doesn't generate enough pressure to function some AR's. It may work fine in AR-180's or Mini 14's but it's not good in AR-15's.

I ended up returning the remainder of the case to Ammoman. Eric was real good about exchanging it for some South African ammo, but it cost me to ship it back to him.
