• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

Just bought a new Ruger Bearcat in stainless for my 9 year old for a Christmas present. 299 + tax. Ok price? I understand that the "MSRP" is about 400.

That's a great price. Just about at dealers cost.

Retail on new ones are $450
Street price $330 - $350

Even if you paid more, It'll last forever, so it comes out pretty cheap. And your 9 year old will love it.

That's what I've seen them for at Gander Mountain and a few other places around here. I've been looking at one for my wife since she really likes the blue one my aunt has.

Thanks guys. It is a sweet little gun. I had to test fire it now didn't I? What kind of dad would give his daughter a gun without test firing it first, just in case :D

I'm going to tell her it is her very own gun subject to 2 provisions: 1)She's not allowed to shoot it without permission until I decide she's responsible enough. 2) I get a "buyback option" when she leaves home - at that time I'll replace it with a suitable carry/home defense pistol (I don't feel bad about this since she'll get it back when I die anyway).

Interesting quirk...she's going through a phase where she loves tigers...guess what is engraved on the cylinder of the bearcat? (I didn't notice this until after I'd bought it).

:D

You're right, the SA .22s are fun to shoot. I don't have any Bearcats, but I do have 4 Single Sixes that are the slightly larger version.

Make sure you take her to a hunter safety course or a gun safety program (NRAs Eddie Eagle) also when she's old enough. My kids (13 & 16) and niece (18) and nephews (20 & 22) went at around age 12.

I told my kids that if they ever wanted to look, hold or shoot my guns all they had to do was ask, but to never do it on their own. They grew up respecting what guns were and what they could do.

My niece lived with me and the family for about 8 years until she moved back in her mom at 16. When I asked her what she wanted for her 18th birthday this summer, she said she wanted a rifle. :D But instead of a new one she wanted my Winchester 9422 lever action I had and that she has enjoyed shooting the most. Well fine. The only conditions were is that she had to remember the 4 gun safety rules, keep it clean and maintained, and that she could only sell it back to me if she ever had or wanted to get rid of it.

I told her that when she turned 21, I owed her a pistol. She just grinned. My stainless steel Springfield Loaded 1911-A1 days are numbered.

Maybe I can talk her into a Bearcat instead. :p
