IMG_20210430_110321_01.jpg Just bought this from an estate sale and currently reading up in it. Figured I'd share with you all. It's in 44 mag. Hoping I didn't overpay, what is a ballpark figure for one of these? They seem to be decently reviewed and robustly made. I do not believe it's been fired. Didn't see anything on GB auction site but know they aren't super expensive.

I have had 2 44's and I still own a 357. The 44's I paid $350 in 2008. Bought the 357 for $300 in 2012

Thanks for the link! I can remember seeing mostly the Virginian Dragoon in stainless with a 6" barrel in most of my travels around to gun shops and gun shows back in the early '80s. Same with the earlier Hammerli built Virginians, though not as often as I found the larger frame models.

If I had it on my table, I would be comping it agains a Ruger for sure.

Gotta be something upwards of towards $800 (maybe a touch higher) right now. If things ever *return to normal* I still can't see it less than $600 in the condition it appears to show.

Todd.

It's a shame that I'd never carry it up here in Southeast Alaska. Waaaaaay too nice. I have defaulted to my Tupperware glock20 as it always goes bang, great firepower to weight ratio, and I don't mind if it gets dinged.

At the risk (though I HOPE it won't) of starting a debate, I'd rather not trust to my speed and accuracy in manipulating a SA pistol of any caliber when faced with a bruin up there.

Now, about how nice it is? Gotta throw that into the *new-pickup-truck* truism of self-fulfilling prophecies. Get that first dent as soon as possible so you can get busy enjoying it.:D

As to the Glock? A choice I certainly endorse.... However, after what happened to that Glock carrying guide up Colorado, I'd probably screw the magazine into the gun semi-permanently.

I totally agree with the SA/DA up here! Aside from using it for bear defense I don't have a real purpose for it though.

I've taken guitars and threw them across the floor so that I wouldnt have to worry about scratches but I'd just feel bad about doing that to a 50 year old pistol that had been unused. I know it's silly, but it bugs me.

I haven't heard of the guide In Colorado so ill google it but up here we usually have 3 or 4 people hunting together just in case things get hairy.

Value and real dollar cost are kind of regional. Around here - NW Florida - any revolver with a "4" in the caliber goes for pretty big money. They get scooped up quick in gun stores, too. I have no idea about Alaska but I'd guess $600 like everyone else is saying is probably a bargain and upwards of $800 is more like full cost. I guess it depends - how much is it worth to you? :)

One thing for sure, if you ever decide to sell it - shipped, of course - there are plenty of guys on this board who'll break their own arms reaching for their wallets. ;)

I know guys who buy a new motorcycle but don't want to ride it too much because that will put too many miles on it or it could get scratched or dirty.
*** did they buy it for ? I see any scratch or mar on my guns through usage as a badge of honor. You have served me well Keemosabe !

I like old, ugly guns. They have character. Like me. :D
