I have a star 9mm bkm I purchased new in the late 80's. Its been a great gun and has only a few hundred rounds through it. I have been having trouble finding much info on it since the manufacturer has gone out of business. Anyone have info for the best source of future parts or the valuation of this gun? I wanted to start shooting it more, but I have been reading that future parts for repairs could be hard to come by. Since I really have not used it much over the last 17 years, I do not know the long term quality of this gun.

Good gun, same as the surplus Star BM's being imported but those have a steel frame. Take it easy and limit hot ammo and I'm sure you will have no problems. I passed a BKM at $200 recently but probabnly should have bought it. I read once the male officers in Spain were issued BM and the females BKM but I wonder why we are not seeing the BKM being improted, few females or did they keep them?

If anything, buy a BM to keep you BKM company, they sell for well under $200. www.gunboards.com has a Spanish handgun forum that will have info on your pistol.

I have a Star PD .45, which is the .45 caliber version of the BKM. It is my constant companion because it is light, accurate, and reliable. I found a website on the Dogpile browser the other day that had the specs. and history of the Star line of pistols. They even had downloadable owners manuals.

I am a bit of a Star collector and I had a nice BKM. I prefer the BM for shooting because of the reduction in recoil but the BKM would make a nice carry gun if I were to carry a SA. I only carry DAO or DA/SA so less weight was no advantage to me as a shooter only.

As far as parts go, Numrich will have some spare parts but some BM parts will fit the BKM as well. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Shoot it and if a part breaks, someone will sell you one for not too much money. Firing pins and extractors are the only things that seem to go wrong on Stars from what I have seen and read. If you are worried, pick up an extra of each but I would just wait until I needed them before buying them. You may be able to shoot that pistol until you die and not have a parts issue. I had a 1945 Star B that still worked after all those years and it looked like it had seen constant service since day one.

The BKM does make a nice carry gun but I would hesitate to shoot it too much. The Ally frames were not the absolute best around, why ther aren't a lot of BKs on the market.
As said before get a BM for shooting. 99% like everything but the frame will swap.
