Star Spangled Banner in SPANISH

I welcome any foreigner to the U.S. with open arms as long as they come in legally.

Only 2 things I ask in return for my kindness. Learn to speak english and learn to sing our anthem the right way!

Regardless of where one comes from once they become citizens they are Americans and Americans have a common language, English. I think most Americans will go out of their way to help a legal immigrant with most problems but some things such as singing the Star Spangled Banner in Spanish or any other language other than English is a flat disrespect to this country and it's flag. I don't care if one speaks Spanish, Russian or Tautog at home, they should at least learn rudimentry English for comingling with the rest of us common people if they really want to be one of us!! The illegals are just what they are, illegal and as such have no standing whatsoever.

I didn't watch the video, because I just ate lunch. I saw the news stories on it and think it's a HUGE insult to the people who fought and died for this country with that song in their hearts.

I don't care who wants to come and live in America. But they sure as Hell need to learn English. Anybody that doesn't is pure lazy and disrespectful and needs to go back where they came from. :cuss: :fire:

I lived in Germany for four and a half years and I sure as Hell had enough respect for the countries I visited, to learn what I could so I could communicate with people in their native tongue.

What is the big deal? They just translated the anthem into spanish? How many of you have lived outside of the country? Did you learn to speak the national language?

What will you do when the national language is changed to Spanish simply because their are more spanish speakers here than english speakers? If they have the votes and do it through Congress are you going to learn Spanish?

In reply, we should find the Mexican National Anthem and sing it here in English! All together now... (Chnage a few words of course on behalf of Presidente Fox)!

In reply I think we should kick every last one of them out, they can adopt it for their own in their own country they can leave ours the hell alone now

They didn't just translate it. They actually changed the words and meanings. THAT is a big deal.

Like Shootcraps said, they changed the friggin words. You might want to read up on that. Also, I served in Germany for 2 years and Korea for 1 and never did I try to sing their anthem in english nor did I disrespect their anthem in any way. Unlike what is going on with ours.:banghead:

Do you speak Korean or German fluently by chance?
How is it disrespectful? They just sung it in another language.

The priest at my mothers church speaks Latin and prays in Latin. Should I assume that he finds it offensive if you say your prayers in any other language?

Is anyone hurt by their actions?

And can someone please post a link to their changing of the words?

They did *not* just translate the Anthem into Spanish...google is your friend :scrutiny:

Lyrics to 'Nuestro Himno' ('Our Anthem')

Oh decid! Despliega aún su hermosura estrellada
sobre tierra de libres, / la bandera sagrada?

English translation:

It's sunrise. Do you see by the light of the dawn
What we proudly hailed last nightfall?
Its stars, its stripes / yesterday streamed
above fierce combat / a symbol of victory
the glory of battle, the march toward liberty.
Throughout the night, they proclaimed: "We will defend it!"

Tell me! Does its starry beauty still wave
above the land of the free, / the sacred flag?

Its stars, its stripes, / Liberty, we are the same.
We are brothers in our anthem.
In fierce combat, a symbol of victory
the glory of battle, / (My people fight on)
the march toward liberty. / (The time has come to break the chains.)
Throughout the night they proclaimed: "We will defend it!"

Tell me! Does its starry beauty still wave
above the land of the free, / the sacred flag?

And now for the REAL Star Spangled Banner...

The Star-Spangled Banner
—Francis Scott Key, 1814

O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Do you speak Korean or German fluently by chance?

No, I speak it out of RESPECT. To show my respect for a foreign country that was allowing me to live there and enjoy it's rich history and culture.

Is anyone hurt by their actions?

Yes. All the people who fought and died for this country with that song in their hearts are now spinning in their frickin' graves because of this travesty.

And it's all because illegal Mexicans are too stupid and/or lazy to learn English. :barf: The millions of LEGAL immigrants that came from Europe in the early 1900's didn't seem to have a problem learning it. I remember from history class that they were quite proud of their accomplishment.

And we have a bunch of bleeding heart liberals who want to handicap them even more by making it mandatory for my tax money to be used to print everything in spanish. What a crock.

Of course. Mexicans are stupid and lazy while Europeans are full of accomplishment and pride.

I think you're on the wrong web site. Maybe stormfront.org would be more your speed.

Wait, wait. I know, some of your best friends are Mexican.

I don't really care as long as the words and translation are correct.

How many people do you see or hear who actually sing the song in English at sporting events? Dang few.

Of course. Mexicans are stupid and lazy while Europeans are full of accomplishment and pride.

Then you explain it to me davec. Why do these people refuse to learn English?

Get the quote right. I didn't say stupid AND lazy. I said AND/OR.

Wait, wait. I know, some of your best friends are Mexican
I am Mexican as a matter in fact!

And it's all because illegal Mexicans are too stupid and/or lazy to learn English
I wouldn't go that far as to saying they are stupid or lazy.

As did I.

I personally don't care if they sing it it Spanish, Hongu or martian, as long as they don't change the words
